Description Heiko Tietze 2015-10-15 11:00:42 UTC
The current position like /home/user/documents/private/ is usually shown with a breadcrumb. LibO presents a dropdown and fills it with content from the file name (recent files). So please make this control either a normal breadcrumb or just show the folder/address.

would you please post a screenshot of the actual situation and a mockup of what you would like to see?

Breadcrumb example

LibO way of showing the current folder in the upper part vs. breadcrumb from KDE dialog in the lower.

as far as I know we use the system dialogs. In GNOME that is true, but I am not sure. What OS & DisplayManager are you using?
Comment 4 Heiko Tietze 2015-10-18 08:44:35 UTC
Regardless that native dialogs will be used in KDE sometimes (today there are only inbuilt dialogs, #95080 for instance) and CMIS is meanwhile available in a separate dialog we should always care about good usability. And the upper folder input is sloppy implemented as it a) presents folders and files like in the files dropdown below, b) has the option to enter data, which is normally also done below, and c) does not provide the usual navigation means as known from breadcrumbs.

Is this Linux only?

The inbuilt dialogs are independent from OS. But KDE suffers most from the limitations.
Comment 8 Heiko Tietze 2017-12-18 09:48:26 UTC
Closing my own ticket as WONTFIX. Tinkering with a replacement to native dialogs is always doomed, and we plan to retire this feature (or probably strip down every non-essential function), see bug 114484.
