Simple xlsx test file

Very slow loading of .xlsx files since LO5.
Attached file is loaded in 2 seconds with Excel 2003.
With LO 5.0.2 opens in more than 2mn15s !
Comment 1 MM 2015-10-16 19:20:30 UTC
V4.3.7.2 opens the file in about 10 secs, but with V4.4.6.1 and above (windows and mint), after some waiting I get a 'General input/output error'. Even with a clean profile. So I can't confirm the long loading time for now.

"it opens faster in Excel" is not a valid report - of course it does, it's their format, when opened in LibreOffice it has to parse the OOXML code, turn it into native code, and then display it. Try opening an ODS file (native open source format) in Excel and you'll have a lot more problems than slow open time - their support for open source formats is dismal at best.

Second, the exclamation mark is entirely unhelpful and a good way to irritated volunteers. It makes it seem like you're underappreciating the product and our tireless hours of work (at no cost to you).

That being said - I've tested the file with:
Ubuntu 15.04 x64
LibreOffice 5.1 (master)

I see the same behavior as MM - we can't open the file at all (input/output error) so the test file is useless for this bug.

Marking as NEEDINFO.

I suggest you report a new bug pertaining to the input/output error and then put "see also" and add this bug to it. This bug cannot move forward until:
1) A new test file is added that we can open;
2) The input/output error is resolved.

Please don't reopen this bug unless one of the two above things are done. Thanks

Xlsx test file can't be open with Microsoft Viewer at all. MS Excel 2010 gives a warning that custom XML elements it contains are no longer supported.
Although report says slow opening, there's no opening due to an error, so I'll just mark as a duplicate of Bug 93997.

Smaller_Test_File

Sorry for exclamation mark, it was just because the difference is very big.
I did not report "opens faster in Excel". I reported a slow opening of a .xlsx file. The fact is, I opened the file with an old Excel copy to compare.
xlsx is not a native format for Excel 2003, it also needs to be converted by a plugin (Microsoft File Format Converters) before loading.
Attached the same file with less rows (about 1200). On my computer, it opens in 45s. I/O error just occurs on some machines, because there's too much lines (lines are all the same), previous file had about 2500 rows, I'll make another bug report for that.

Before you open a new bug, please make clear what your files are. They are not .xlsx at least not proper Office 2007/2010/2013.
How are they created? If with Office 2003, they are .xml types.
And they cannot be tested nor fixed until Bug 93997 is resolved.

Exact, the file is generated by an external tool, and has an .xlsx extension, instead of an .xml one.
I think that's done because, .xml files are opened by lot of tools (browsers, editors, etc...), and developpers did want their file to open with a spreadsheet program.
I tested with an .xml extension, and the time to open the file is the same. Calc is slow...
Do I need to open a new bug with

Sorry, bad key...
Do I need to open a new bug or can I change the title and submit the same file with an .xml extension ?
Comment 8 Timur 2015-10-20 09:15:23 UTC
As I wrote, it's useless now, files cannot be tested nor fixed until Bug 93997 is resolved. So just track that one so far.
And even if it's fixed and you submit a new bug later, it may be invalid because your files cannot even be properly open with MS Office. In that case you should give exact detail which Excel opens files.
Until then, you can use LibreOffice 4.3.7.2. which opens that file, and that's not slow with my computer (well, it's i7).
