It would really be helpful to be able to group frames together as well as with other drawing elements. Too bad this hasn't been provided earlier.
Let's ask UX.
While they are classified draw:shapes, Frames in Writer offer very powerful page layout management, as well as containers to hold images and graphics, with a range of style and formatting that can be applied. Believe Frames are much more deeply integrated in writer than the other draw:shapes. Evidenced by handling of Frames in Navigator where you'll see Text Frames, and Draw Objects. Yes two Frame objects can not be grouped together, believe they are intended to be unitary to their anchor and used as fundamental containers for layout. So not sure of the utility for allowing these objects to be grouped with other Draw Objects.
(In reply to V Stuart Foote from comment #2) Well, I had to create a diagram or a sort of flowchart with boxes that contained lists. I couldn't use lists in text boxes as in frames. I then wanted to group all the frame boxes, lines and arrows for better manipulation of the whole diagram.
We're replacing our use of the 'ux-advise' component with a keyword: Component -> LibreOffice Add Keyword: needsUXEval [NinjaEdit]
What speaks against grouping of frames? Is it possible from the ODF specification (CC'ing Regina), what happens when a frame is grouped with another object, and perhaps the product of both with another frame, is the frame group exportable, etc.
Grouping might not work but what we can do is to align and distribute. Changing the summary in this way.
