Writer supports flat format .fodt for documents, which provides a VCS-friendly version of document (https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Libreoffice_and_subversion). Since Base documents usually contain macros and forms, it would be very convenient to control them using a VCS. Unlike Writer, Base also contains databases, which, however, could be represented as base64 encoded segments in the flat database format.
Not sure how technically feasible this is, but constitutes on the face of it a reasonable request for enhancement.
