got a message that an upgrade was available so went ahead and did the upgrade to the 4.4.6 and it finished no problem but will not open and gave the error "missing sofficeapp.dll". I then tried to download version 5 and the same thing happened but now the error is "missing MSVCR120.dll". It has not created a desktop icon as requested either.
You went on windows from a 32 bit version 4.4.6 to a 64 bit version 5, right ?! Then you might have some x64 files missing. Try installing vcredist_x64.exe from here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-US/download/details.aspx?id=40784 (click on download) and see if that works.
Set to NEEDINFO. Change back to UNCONFIRMED, if the problem persists. Change to RESOLVED WORKSFORME, if the problem went away.
Unfortunately I needed the program and uninstalled the version 5 and went back to 4.4.6 so I could carry on. I did not have the opportunity to test your theory.
Ok, let's set this to INVALID. Maybe next time you can try uninstalling first and then doing a complete reinstall for 5.
