Description Jan Skarvall 2015-12-06 23:22:32 UTC
I have documents that makes extensive use of field variables.

I have noticed that rather often, when having closed LibreOffice Writer after having saved the document, when starting LibreOffice Writer again, it asks to recover the document. However, the recovery fails and LibreOffice Writer immediately closes. Starting it again, and the same thing happens. The only way to get out of the situation is to cancel the recovery.

I have noted, and suspect, that this always happens when I have the Fields dialog open when closing LibreOffice Writer. I am not sure, but I also have noted that the problem is more likely to occur when I have two documents open that uses field variables.

When going from one document to the other, I have also noted that the field definitions seems to come "out of sync", i.e. when inserting a field, another one gets inserted.

Also, having had this problem with a document, and got working again, Libre Office Writer sometimes closes itself, i.e. silently crashes.

So, in summary, I think there is some bug that is related to having the Fields dialog open when closing LibreOffice Writer, and maybe this "out of sync" behaviour is related.

As this is referring to a particular document - we need a copy of it attached. Moving to NEEDINFO.

Also - in the future please always keep bug reports separate (failed document recovery is distinct from intermittent crashes). Finally, we need clear reproducible steps - here there is a general description but no real steps to reproduce.

Once the above is addressed please move to UNCONFIRMED. Thanks

Sorry, I'm not allowed to disclose the document.

I guess there is no such thing as an ODT obfuscator?

I'll try to provoke the issue with another document.

A document that fails to recover.
Comment 4 Jan Skarvall 2015-12-07 08:55:20 UTC
I have attached a simple document that prompt for recovery. Recovery seems to work, but LibreOffice Writer closes, and when the file is opened again, it still needs recovery.

Not reproduced. Killed LibO while the document was open. Recovered ok without any weird stuff.

Maybe you could try LibO 5.

Maybe there is information that is not stored in the document itself that is wrong, as the prompt to recover this particular document shows when opening any other odt document?

Please try with 5.1.x
