Description José Alberto 2015-12-14 02:47:19 UTC
screen readers do not read the presentations created in impress as well as they do not read the entire documents, carrying out a pause at the end of a paragraph. This behavior is noted with NVDA 2015.3 and LibreOffice 5.3.2 as well as the previous 4.7.2.

Repro with NVDA 2015.4. It doesn't read what is in the slide.

Testers: you can use a disposable email to dl the setup: http://www.nvaccess.org/download/

I can confirm this issue still exists in LibreOffice 5.4.2.2 (x64) and NVDA 2017.3.

For what it's worth, you also can't read presentations in Apache OpenOffice 4.1.4.

Even using NVDA's object navigation (which lets you identify the different parts of a window or object), I can't get to the text, or the objects on a slide. (See https://www.nvaccess.org/files/nvda/documentation/userGuide.html#toc29 for information on NVDA's Object Navigation)

hello.
in libreoffice and openoffice (no matter which version i use), it seems that impress is not accessibile for blind users.
i cant read the content of presentation, i think that can only use page up or page down to navigate and read the header of each slide, but cant read its content using nvda!
i sometimes use tab and impress wants me whether i want to save the changes in the file or not.
i realy dont know is impress completely inaccessible for screen reader users?
or if using it is possible, how should i read the content of presentations and each slide.
God bless you all.

Just replying to confirm this issue still exists in LO 6.1.3.2 as well as Open Office 4.1.6.

One very messy workaround using NVDA is that the OCR function will read the text on screen. This would not be at all ideal when giving a presentation however.

Also, anyone considering testing with NVDA, we no longer require an email address on the download page (though there is still provision to provide one if you wish): https://www.nvaccess.org/download

Dear José Alberto,

To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today, LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed bugs which have not been touched for over a year.

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in getting confirmation that the bug is still present.

If you have time, please do the following:

Test to see if the bug is still present with the latest version of LibreOffice from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/

If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice.

If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice.

Please DO NOT

Update the version field
Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker)
Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular meaning that is not
appropriate in this case)

If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a REGRESSION. To do so:
1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from https://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/

2. Test your bug
3. Leave a comment with your results.
4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo';
4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add 'regression' to keyword

Feel free to come ask questions or to say hello in our QA chat: https://web.libera.chat/?settings=#libreoffice-qa

Thank you for helping us make LibreOffice even better for everyone!
