Screenshot of the same-file-open-twice after LO restart

Inserted a text frame., filled it with some text, set the background colour.
Then decided a gradient would look better, and defined an axial gradient and clicked Okay. LO warned that I had not modified or added the gradient, so I clicked on the Add and gave the gradient a name, and clicked okay. LO crashed.

When I started it again, it warned (as usual) that all the backup files were missing (already reported). It recovered them from "original".

Worryingly, though, amongst the re-opened/recovered documents, I now have two copies of the same file: WildThing-CS.odt, same word and character count, one showing that it has been saved, one showing it has not. I'll attach a screenshot. I didn't think it was supposed to be possible to have one document open in two windows at the same time. Oh, and although one doc has the "Needs save" indicator, Undo is greyed out in its Edit menu.

The gradient crash and the recovery issues are different problems. Please never mix several problems (even if they're related somehow) in one bug report.

As for the gradient crash, it would be great to get a backtrace, but I suspect it's the same crash that was fixed in Bug 93978 towards 5.0.5.
Comment 2 Luke Kendall 2015-12-17 09:06:02 UTC
Sorry, the report about the recovery is already a separate bug (https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=95591). I wasn't trying to draw your attention to that.

But do you think that having two instances of LO open on the same document is worth reporting as a separate bug? That might be a separate, unreported problem. May be 89925.

No crash here.

Drew a text box using Drawing toolbar.

Test with 5.0.4. If still crashes, install debug package and get a gdb trace https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/BugReport/Debug_Information

Hi Luke,

If you can reproduce this crash, please follow the instructions provided at this link < https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/BugReport/Debug_Information#GNU.2FLinux >. and submit a backtrace. That way a developer can look into the underlying reason of the crash.

I just repeated my steps as exactly as I could. I feel confident I got them all right. This time, it did not crash, so I think your idea that the bug was indeed fixed for 93978, and I think it's a good idea to close this report (probably as Resolved).

Thanks a lot, Luke. Let's close.
