Created attachment 121678 [details] Some example files to illustrate the filled bug I found that when paste some illustrations in frames of a Writer document and save as DOC and reopen some of the illustrations are missing. In order to check it in more details I have created a test Writer document plus a test Draw document. Then I have created frames in the Writer documents and try to paste there the drawings from the Draw documents using available methods for paste operation. Then I have saved the Writer document as Microsoft Word 97/2000/XP/2003 (.doc) аnd reopen it in Writer. The results have been found as follows: 1. Paste "as Draw 8" did not produce any visible image in the frame before the save operation. But if I click on the empty with the mouse the green dots for manipulating of a picture have got visible. 2. Paste operation by "Ctrl + V" and "as Draw 8" created missing illustrations in the frames after reopening the file. 3. Paste "as Picture Format" had created some picture with bad image quality - distortion of the measurement lines and some thin lines have go missing. 4. Only paste "as GDI meta file" and "as raster image" could produce usable results. Please see the attached ZIP file with the example files.
I have forgotten to inform some thing in addition. Unfortunately even the paste "as GDI meta file" produces very readable picture, it also makes still not acceptable illustrations in the document. This is because the pasted image becomes bigger due to some added wide empty area around the expected image and so uses far bigger area in the document, compared to the the original drawing. This is contrary to the needed behaviour where it need to preserve the area copied in the Draw instead of wasting the area around in the Writer documents. Unfortunately, I mean that if one would like to produce a serious document in Writer, with many illustrations done in Draw, He may get a lot of troubles with the current status of the Libre Office 4.4.7.2. Based on this, may be this bug should be considered as Major?
Tried doing from scratch using the Draw smiley face. Only the Drawing format disappeared after saving to .doc. Draw 8, GDI metafile and bitmap were visible. No problem with bitmap quality. Did the same with your example .odg and this time NONE of the pasted images disappeared after save to .doc and reload. I will attach the .odt so you can test. Created attachment 121712 [details] Example document working correctly
Yes, your attachment looks good, but the way of creating it does not repeat what I am doing with my testing. In fact when I did copy all drawings in my Draw file at once and paste them at once I have got the same result as in your attachment. But when I try to copy a part of it - some of the small drawings and paste them in the Writer document frames the result was different. In my attachment to the bug report I have created a PDF before the save operation and second one after save, close and reopen. Please see the difference. Also I am working in Linux only. At the moment it is openSUSE Leap 42.1. So may be there is some thing different. Unfortunately this new Year started very hard and busy for me, so I could try to do more experiments but not earlier than in the weekend. I will try to found some more time then and do more experiments. Then I will inform what I found. With best regards,
Ok, now I tried with your lowest drawing, the triangle with b, d, i. Same result as with the smiley face: Drawing format disappears after saving to .doc. So the result is different from your description, but I will set to NEW. Win 7 Pro 64-bit, Version: 5.0.4.2 (x64) Build ID: 2b9802c1994aa0b7dc6079e128979269cf95bc78 Locale: fi-FI (fi_FI)
ОК, thanks for it. I will try to make dipper research around this issue and will come back with more information, but not earlier than next week.
Hi Beluga, Today I manage to test all this problems again. This time I had used openSUSE Leap 42.1 with LibreOffice 4.4.7.2 from The Document Foundation and MS Windows 8.1 with I have created some drawings in Draw, to use them as illustrations and save them. Then I have created a document in Writer and put inside some random text using Edit - Auto text in Writer. Then I try to put inside some part from the drawing. I have opened the drawing file and select some images from there. First part was some grouped images and second part I just select 2 images without to group them. Then I put them in the document using all available possibilities. Then I put explanation to all inserted images to inform how they are inserted. Then I made a PDF export to the file 'The test document Before save.pdf'. After that I have saved the document as .doc closed it and reopen it. Please see the document 'The test document after save.doc' Then I open this document with Writer again. This way I have got a mess with the illustrations - many of them have got bad quality and many of them have got different position in the document. This way I have got visible destroyed layout - different than the initial document before the save operation. Then I have done another export to PDF and so created the 'The test document After save close and reopen again.pdf'. I need to inform that all above operations I have made in openSUSE Linux. Then I try to open the file I have got after the save operation in LibreOffice 5.0.3.2 in MS Windows 8.1. The result was not much better. So I did export to PDF creating the file 'The test document after save and open with LO5.0.3.2.pdf' in order to fix what is visible on the screen in the LibreOffice 5.0.3.2 in MS Windows 8.1. So my opinion is that some thing is wrong in LibreOffice when one creates Writer documents with illustrations created by Draw. At this stage as now I believe it will be very difficult to create reach documents with good quality by LibreOffice Draw and Writer. Please see the attached PDF file with my last experiments. With best regards,

I have checked this again. Unfortunately I found the same behaviour in LibreOffice 5.2.6. The only difference is that some formats (raster image, picture) for the pasted image now are not available in the current version.
