Hi,

LibreOffice Writer lacks of a feature for creating an individual frame (more than lines of different shape) around text.

MS Word offers nice frame cliparts, but in Writer you have to use LO Draw as an inconvenient workaround. That's bad and takes more time as with MS Word.

Regards,
Ettore

Can you better describe what you're thinking? A link to MS Office feature might help.

Marking as NEEDINFO until this is clarified a bit.

As an FYI: Enhancements are entirely tackled by volunteers, so it might take a long time (or never happen) depending on whether a volunteer sees the enhancement request and thinks that they would like to tackle it. But we're always collecting feature requests so volunteers have ample choice as to what they implement.

Once you clarify please mark as UNCONFIRMED. Thanks!

Your examples are of page borders. Yet, I think you want to add the feature for any frames or text boxes. Is this correct?
Comment 5 Ettore Atalan 2016-01-18 19:51:16 UTC
Yes, that's correct.

Hmm, not so sure this is worth doing.

Rules and Border art were stripped out of LibreOffice Gallery as unmaintainable at 4.0--really don't see much need to reintroduce.

Simple to fill area of an oversize frame or text box with a bitmap and then layer a smaller background canvas, set some transparency if desired, and then add text or shapes onto that.

All the features shown here are possible with LO, with the exception that LO doesnt ship frame clipart.

This is likely a feature that could be added to the borders tab, as presently it is only possible to add a styled line as a border. LO currently doesnt support importing MS docs with this feature set.

The links in comments 3 and 4 are dead; and the attached document opens in LibreOffice with no border showing. So, at this point, it's difficult to tell what's requested. Can anyone attach a screenshot or a rendered PDF?

Also, is this a request for an image to be usable as...

* The entire page border, all four sides?
* One side of the page border (i.e. an elongated image)?
* A pattern, repeated to form the page border?

The latter is now bug 171729.
