Description Kevin Suo 2016-01-16 11:59:40 UTC
This is an enhancement request. I request to add the Hard Recalculation (CTRL+SHIFT+F9) to the menu, under "Data -> Calculation".

Hard Recalculation is an very import function in Calc, especially when some cell values are not calculated correctly (especially in xls/xlsx format). Currently very few people know this feature, this is only documented in the help.
Comment 1 Jean-Baptiste Faure 2016-01-16 18:29:25 UTC
Valid request. I support it.

Best regards. JBF
Comment 2 Markus Mohrhard 2016-04-15 12:51:03 UTC
This was decided a long time ago that HArdRecalc does not belong into the menu. All cases where we need a hard recalc outside of development are bugs.

I agree with Markus Mohrhard's comment; however, it would be nice to have in the menus as all bugs have not been fixed (eg. bug 87524).
Comment 4 Óvári 2016-04-21 02:10:54 UTC
After more thought, +1 for Kevin Suo, Jean-Baptiste Faure and Stefan Weiberg to implement this feature.

A reason in agreement with Kevin Suo and Jean-Baptiste Faure, after all bugs have been elimated, include, but is not limited to:
* Updating external references/data sources, whether they are located on a website, remote server or on a local harddisk.

The name of this feature in the menu may need further discussion, whether it is called:
Update, Refresh, Recalculate, etc.

Other menu item may be:
* Recalculate Status (if there are connections to external websites)
* Cancel Recalculation (to interrupt a hard refresh)

Perhaps there could be other menu items to distinguish between external data sources.

Added Markus Mohrhard to CC.

Thank you

My patch for this still exists in Gerrit (it is abandoned though): https://gerrit.libreoffice.org/#/c/24113/

Renaming the entry shouldn't be much of a problem.
Comment 6 Markus Mohrhard 2016-04-30 15:14:30 UTC
Please don't add me to CC after I closed a bug. I explained why the calc developers will not accept this feature. You are free to disagree with us but must also accept that we have to keep the bigger picture in mind.

Please don't contact me around this again.

For those who really want to have the entry in their Calc menu, this is how you get it there:

1. Tools > Customize > Menus tab.
2. Pick Data | Calculate from the topmost combobox (or whichever other menu you want to have the entry in)
3. Click Add ...
4. Select category Options from the left listbox and then Recalculate Hard from the right listbox
5. Click Add (alternatively drag the entry to the menu configuration window) and close the window
6. Save the config w/ OK. Done

Thank you, closing with WFM.
