Description tera_1225 2016-01-20 11:27:15 UTC
Hello,

I am experiencing an issue with Writer (LibreOffice 5.0.3.2) on my OS X 10.8.5 machine.
I am afraid this might be rather difficult to reproduce, as it is related to speed of typing: I am using Writer to take notes during classes, and so typing rather fast (at least as fast as I can...) in French language.
When I type, any character with an accent tends to be out of place, usually one row left of where it should be (so I guess you could say "early").
Depending on the speed, the accentuated character can sometimes be two rows out of its typing place.

This is not systematic, and I had dismissed it at first as being the occasional typo on my part, but yesterday I was in class with a particularly fast speaking lecturer, and it became a real handicap.

I performed the following test in order to objectively demonstrate the presence of this bug: I installed a keylogger (I know I know, evil, but in this case, a perfectly legitimate use), then typed into Writer. Here is the comparison:

Keylogger:
Les sociétés amérindiennes sont métisées.

Writer:
Les socéités amérindiennes sont météises.

Any help would be much appreciated.
Best regards,
Mark.

Bump?
This is not that hard to confirm. Couldn't anybody at least try please. Help appreciated.

Hi, as said on the FR list, we have been several unable to reproduce. Could you try a newer version of LibreOffice and let us know if it's still happening? thanks - Sophie

Well it seems like the bug has now gone in the latest version of LibreOffice!
I just installed 5.1.1 (on Mac OS X 10.8.5) and can no longer reproduce either.
All for the best, although I suppose we might never know what exactly went wrong now, and that might frustrate some (not me though, I'm pleased to have a usable piece of software!)
Thanks all for your help.

So closing again, please do not change the status unless you meet the problem again and it has been confirmed on the list, thanks - Sophie

Sorry Sophie, I was using a slightly outdated version and was indeed experiencing this issue again, but after changing the status on the bug I went to get a better test case, and realized I had the old version of LO. On updating to version 5.4.5.1 it is gone again.
I wonder if this is not more to do with having an "old" installation than the actual version… Sorry for the noise in any case, I have nothing more to add on using the freshly installed version.
Thanks for your patience. All the best,
Mark.
