Description andreas.jany 2016-02-02 10:59:35 UTC
I have problems with all versions greater 4.3.7.2. I work with calc and there I have huge tables (more than 50000 rows). I often copy a column to a text editor, work on it and copy it back again to calc. This always worked fine but not with versions greater 4.3.7.2. When I insert such a colum (simply numbers) calc crashes. In the task manager I can see ram is increasing to about 1,5 gb and the it crashes. I tried many new versions, 32bit and 64bit, everywhere the same thing... My files are about 5-15 MBs, 10-30 columns with unformatted text.

Hi @andreas, thanks for reporting.

Have you test, pasting as unformatted text?, click on the righ-arrow of the paste icon or trough Menu/Edit/Paste special.

Hi, it happens when I insert a column of numbers in a text column:

10.2
2.5
...

replaced by

10,2
2,5
...

I copy the column, insert it in a text editor, replace dot by comma and then back to calc. If I clear the column first and then insert, there is no problem. But if I try to "overwrite" it, calc crashes...

Sorry, but I don't see an answer to my question.

On the other side, you don't need use a text editor for change dot by comma.

The simple way is Menu/Data/Text to column, click on the column head and in the column type select English US.

With the search and replaee [Ctrl+H] you can replace dot by comma, only verify that regular expression are not marked.

Sorry, yes, I tried to paste unformatted text. I know there are other ways but I think it should be possible to paste more than 100000 rows of unformated text and overwrite a text column with numbers (standard). In earlier versions this took a second, now in huge files the whole program crashes. I made a test file with just 2 columns, each 150000 rows and there it really takes some minutes to paste!
There must be something calc is doing when you paste numbers over text and I would like to know if I can deactivate this. One thing you can disable is the automatic text correction, but this is not the solution for this problem...

Please @andreas, column B in your sample is formatted as text @.

Pasting special as unformatted text, using a language with comma decimal separator, past quick for me.

Also not having enable Menu/Tools/Options/Load-Save/HTML configuration - Use English (USA) locale for numbers.
