Open a Writer document with some text. Open a new empty writer document and without saving, return to the existing document and try to select text. Nothing (at least not visible to human eye) is select.
Close or Save the new document (put in a letter or word), return to existing document, now text can be selected.

Hi Michael,

Thank you for reporting the bug. Can you copy and paste the version information from the Help > About dialog, as that will make it easier for us to know what your configuration is? Is it possible for you to do a screencast with Camstudio or screencast-o-matic.com?

I'm unable to reproduce this on Windows 7 or 8 with 5.3 master.

@Stuart: Can you test this on windows 10?
