Description Jani Kauppila 2016-02-18 19:51:23 UTC
There seems to be some sort of compatibility problem with Windows 10 Mobile and Libreoffice Writer .docx format. When I open a .docx file on my phone, Word mobile application opens it as read-only because it says that it is in an older format. If I want to make edits on my phone, I need to use "save as" and make a new file.

Excel mobile on the other hand has no problem with .xlsx files from Libreoffice.

Very interesting.

Jani: Please open the docx and xlsx files on your phone and then Save As -> a new file, then attach those to this bug report. Perhaps there's something very minor such as an OOXML version identifier that needs to be tweaked?

I confirm with with LO 5.3.2 64Bit and Lumia 730 Dual SIM. I can open attachment from comment 1 as a read-only document. I have no problems to open the other attachements.

I use a Lumia 550 with the final release of Windows Mobile 10 (10.0.15254.490) and the latest release of the Office Mobile apps (16002.10325.20036.0).

There were two issues

a) Word Mobile says, that the document is in an 'old version'.

I could not reproduce these with the recent version. I also created some new test cases with 6.1RC2. Word just opened the files.

b) Office Mobile handles all files as read-on. Only saving a copy of a document is possible.

In the latest releases of Office Mobile you need an Office365 subscription to edit documents.
That does not mean you need to open the browser to edit a document. It's just about the license stored inside the phone. An account in the MS App Store is not enough. Office Mobile needs an additional activation.
You can see App's version and license type in 'Settings'→ 'Info'.
