Description darkskyanarchy 2016-02-27 11:03:14 UTC
I want all pages to use the same background (watermark) image on every page (which I would normally accomplish by inserting an image in the header and configuring the image to mirror on even pages, but Writer keeps resetting the header configuration to something other than that setting, e.g. only allowing the image on the first page or the first two pages, but definitely none after the second. Saving and reopening gets you something other than you had before you saved and exited.

I also want NO footer on the first page and "p. <pageNumber> of <pageCount>" on the outside corner of a double sided document (hence different even and odd page footers), but I just can't get Writer to stick with that configuration. It won't let me eliminate the first page footer, changing the footer configuration affects the header configuration and vice versa.

Headers and footers are AFU and 5.0.5.2 is worse than the previous release (which was more amenable to giving you the aforementioned configuration).

Background images are also much harder to work with than the previous release. It's almost impossible to select it once you've inserted it and editing text that writes through the image after the image has been inserted is essentially impossible too. Also worse than the previous release (which was more cooperative, if a bit flakey).

Finally, I have a 22 page document with a few small images (not counting the watermark, which is huge) and Writer is choking badly - screen updates take a LONG time and it crashes too (another thing the previous release was better at). At the moment, a document you have to say a few Hail Mary's before you have a prayer of writing a document longer than 20 pages.

IMO, 5.0.5.2 needs a LOT of QA consideration (it has become wholly unusuable).

Do you by any chance have this enabled: Tools - Options - LibO - View - Use OpenGL for all rendering? Just thought the 22 page document problem sounded very weird.
Comment 2 darkskyanarchy 2016-02-29 11:17:23 UTC
It is not enabled at the moment.

"configuring the image to mirror on even pages" how do we do this?

Here are my steps to set up the bg image:
1. Add header, format it
2. Header tab - More..
3. Area - Bitmap
4. Import graphic, uncheck tile

What's the status with the latest versions?
