COnfirmed w MAS version.
Comment 3 Adolfo Jayme Barrientos 2016-03-22 04:38:00 UTC
@Steve, Emilio: is this issue exclusive of the App Store version, then? If so, we should probably add András to CC ;-)

does not show a splash screen.

I never bothered to file a bug since in the days of SSD harddrives (and apple does not sell any machine without such a drive) the loading times are so small that showing a splash adds more distraction and irritation than it does anything useful to the user.

So not a MAS exclusive problem.
Comment 5 Emilio Rezzonico 2016-03-22 14:15:06 UTC
Okay, this is pretty interesting. Loading LO takes on my 2014 Mac Book Air 1,4 GHz Intel Core i5 with SSD aprox 5 seconds. Because of the SSD you can't analyse, if the computer loads something because Mac OS X doesn't provide any indication. I think a splashscreen would be useful.
Comment 6 Emilio Rezzonico 2016-03-22 14:19:30 UTC
oh I can confirm that this is not an excusive problem with the AppStore-Version. It can be reproduced with this version:

Version: 5.1.1.3
Build-ID: 89f508ef3ecebd2cfb8e1def0f0ba9a803b88a6d
CPU-Threats: 4; BS-Version: Mac OS X 10.11.3
Comment 7 steve 2016-03-22 14:43:03 UTC
Emilio: I disagree on this:

" Loading LO takes on my 2014 Mac Book Air 1,4 GHz Intel Core i5 with SSD aprox 5 seconds. Because of the SSD you can't analyse, if the computer loads something because Mac OS X doesn't provide any indication."

Well, the expected thing is, LO will load. Are you seeing cases where LO is not starting after you clicked the dock icon, or started LO from Spotlight?
Comment 8 Emilio Rezzonico 2016-03-22 17:46:03 UTC
Well, i'm thinking about users who haven't very much expert knowledge in handling software. Like my grandma ;) she would click the icon in the Lauchpad (LO not preloaded on RAM). A splash screen would prevent her from trying to launch LO again and again until the first window appears. So a splash screen could be a benefit in Luser-software-experience.

The cause isn't a regression in LO as far I can tell, but a change in MacOS introduced by El Capitan.

Any update with a recent LO version (6.2.8 or brand new 6.3.2)?
Comment 15 Alex Thurgood 2019-11-12 15:58:18 UTC
I can only reproduce this on subsequent launches of

macOS Mojave 10.14.6 with :

LO Vanilla 6262
LO 6312
LO 6282

In other words, the first time in any window session that I launch LO of any particular version, I get a splashscreen. If I close that instance of LO, remove it from the Dock and restart, I no longer get a splashscreen.

Dear Emilio Rezzonico,

To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today, LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed bugs which have not been touched for over a year.

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in getting confirmation that the bug is still present.

If you have time, please do the following:

Test to see if the bug is still present with the latest version of LibreOffice from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/

If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice.

If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice.

Please DO NOT

Update the version field
Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker)
Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular meaning that is not
appropriate in this case)

If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a REGRESSION. To do so:
1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from https://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/

2. Test your bug
3. Leave a comment with your results.
4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo';
4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add 'regression' to keyword

Feel free to come ask questions or to say hello in our QA chat: https://web.libera.chat/?settings=#libreoffice-qa

Thank you for helping us make LibreOffice even better for everyone!

Warm Regards,
QA Team
