Description Nick Levinson 2016-03-19 21:48:03 UTC
A file autoscrolls toward the bottom. I'm not sure, but I think it happens in an existing (maybe long) Writer document already saved, happening after I do a search (using ctrl-f without Match Case) downward for a few or many matches, then click the Find Previous arrow and find a few matches, then click the Find Next arrow and find one or a few matches. My kludgy solution is to save (if necessary and saving may or may not stop the autoscrolling) and close and reopen the file. I do not have to quit Writer or LibreOffice. It used to happen in Writer 4.x, too.

I'm using an AMD PC-type laptop with openSuse 13.2 Linux. LO info is "Build ID: 00m0(Build:2)"/"Locale: en-US (en_US.UTF-8)" for Suse. I don't remember which hardware I was using for LO v4.x, but it, too, was likely with Linux.

Hello Nick,

I was unable to confirm it on Ubuntu 15.10. Could you please add more specific steps? like 1. do this 2. do that. 3. this happen. If it only happens with one file, could you please add attach it after removing personal/sensitive informations?

I tried to search for a word upward and downward in side a sample document to reproduce it without success.

I plan to try. Meanwhile, I found another possible symptom: Sometimes, next to the Find (ctrl-f) window, the up and down arrows are dimmed, although their tooltips ("Find Next" and "Find Previous") still work. I don't know why they dim. The arrows don't work when dimmed, but the Enter key does. Then I make the Find window go away, then bring it back, the arrows still dimmed, and try a Find again. After that, possibly with the arrows no longer dimmed, the auto-scrolling happens. This isn't a set of steps under which the problem is not intermittent, so I'll try to put that together. The problem has occurred with various *.odt files. I've created a test file and expect to try some more.

Hi,

I don't know if it is the same problem.
I have a long document (about 490 pages). After clicking on the right scrollbar writer scrolls up again and again till reaching the end of the document.
Version: 5.1.5.2 X1 Carbon Win 8.1 pro 64 8go.
I've the same problem with older 5.x version on other machines (HP 8510 workstation pro (Win 8 Pro x64) and Sony SVZ1311 (Win 8.1 Pro x64).
I use only a mouse, not the touch pad.
I didn't have enough time to do the same test with Mint 17.3 or Ubuntu 16.04.
Each PC has it own mouse connected on an USB Port.
This is really annoying completed with the other problem (slow slow scrolling when openGL is enabled).
Regards

I haven't had time to do a full test creation (probably needing a couple of hours) to get around intermittency, and have almost always limited my real-world control-f searches to being downward, to avoid the problem. I wish I had the time, but I doubt I will in the time frame you suggest. I'll leave this to other people, including disposal, if needed. Perhaps a later LO version fixed it anyway. Thanks.
