All of a sudden the ROWS-function stopped to work. See

=ROWS(A5:A16)

Hi, Peter

### means the column is not wide enough to show your result.
Just double click the bar between column header A and B,
or drag it to widen the column.

not quite so.
This phenomenon started out of the blue - no problem before.
Checking again I found

Data - Calculate - Auto Calculate checked.

I changed to

Formula to Value

then the value appeared and the function switched to Auto Calculate again.

Value still visible with field width matching the value.

So, why did the Calculate function act this way?

The problem is solved.
One has to uncheck Prefs-Calc-View-Display Formulas.
In the new v 5.1.2.2 it was checked (not by me!)
