Description Frank 2016-05-13 20:00:01 UTC
Just got to use the newly downloaded LibreOffice:
  Version: 5.1.3.2
  Build ID: 1:5.1.3~rc2-0ubuntu1~trusty1
  CPU Threads: 4; OS Version: Linux 3.19; UI Render: default;
  Locale: en-US (en_US.UTF-8)

First thing I noticed was that one can now grab the right screen edge to resize the window without the SideBar stretching ever-so-slowly to catch up. Kudos for the speed-up!

Of course, this seems to come at a price. I stretch the window to a size appropriate for the document I'm working on. Then I Alt+Tab to a different app and immediately see the Writer window snap back to its previous width.

I tried a number of things to make the size "stick" (e.g. saving before switching to another app hoping to force a write) but to no avail.

Neither of the "Use Open GL" options is checked by the way, but I've read too many stories about turning that on to try it.

Each module will have its own settings in the user profile. Try opening each module, resizing and then exiting it once. On next launch it should retain that size as set--unless you launch from the StartCenter.

Launching from StartCenter is still resetting the window size for the module. And closing the last active document in any module resets the StartCenter size.

That is bug 75644--Better options to control LibO window resize of the Start Screen and last used window size of each document module.

Sorry, but not on my system.

I opened Writer directly (no Start Center), changed the Window width, and when I typed the first character in the document, the Window reverted to its starting size. Resized again after that, and further edits didn't cause it to change, but the old size was restored when I opened Writer again.

So then I opened Writer directly once again, resized it, and immediately exited. Still the same.

Next I opened Writer directly, resized it, and saved the document with no changes and immediately exited. Still the same behavior.

Still, the speed up on the sidebar movement is nice...

Perhaps manually editing the user profile for the Writer module will "lock" the setting ??

One more note:

I went in to Writer directly (no Start Center), resized the Window width, and then chose Tools > Options and the window immediately reverted its size before I could choose the file locations (I couldn't remember where the profiles were stored).

Hmm, seems to be working as intended on Windows 10 Pro 64-bit en-US with
Version: 5.1.2.2 (x64)
Build ID: d3bf12ecb743fc0d20e0be0c58ca359301eb705f
CPU Threads: 8; OS Version: Windows 6.19; UI Render: GL;
Locale: en-US (en_US)

or with

Version: 5.1.3.2 (x64)
Build ID: 644e4637d1d8544fd9f56425bd6cec110e49301b
CPU Threads: 8; OS Version: Windows 6.19; UI Render: GL;
Locale: en-US (en_US)

or with a current master

Version: 5.2.0.0.alpha1+
Build ID: efc05c0a1ecac549c8340a8f9ec4e47556569adc
CPU Threads: 8; OS Version: Windows 6.2; UI Render: default;
TinderBox: Win-x86@62-merge-TDF, Branch:MASTER, Time: 2016-05-13_23:01:28
Locale: en-US (en_US)

The per-component user profile setting size, placement, and sidebar customization is working correctly.

@bubli, Bjoern -- any specifics you will need to figure out what might be wrong with the Ubuntu builds?

@Frank
are you still seeing this issue with latest LibO 5.2.3.3?

Hi Tommy:

I no longer see this using either the 5.2.3.2 build or the 5.3.0.0.beta1 builds on the 16.04.1 Ubuntu.

I would say that it has been fixed, although I'm sorry to say I can't pin down when that might have happened.

As far as I'm concerned this bug can be closed.
