In bug 105225 comment 1 was stated, that the new color palettes can't be chosen for chart colors. 12 default chart colors are defined. Since there is no more a single palette where users can add custom colors, custom colors will be saved in the "custom" palette. Where should custom chart colors be added? With the new color picker they must be saved in the "custom" palette. But this is--in a user's perspective--not convenient. Why should the color of Data Series 13 be added (and chosen) in "custom" palette and colors of Data Series 1-12 chosen in "chart" palette (or wherever). Additionally the whole options dialog of charts default colors must be revamped or deleted at all. The "chart colors" list will be obsolete if chart colors will have their own palette. But: Personally I think it would be a UX mess if there is 1) a new chart color palette in the color picker and 2) a chart colors list in "Tools > Options > Charts > Default Colors" where colors from the chart palette and custom chart colors are collected. This would introduce a second level of color management.
(In reply to Thomas Lendo from comment #0) > Where should custom chart colors be added? Why should the color of > Data Series 13 be added (and chosen) in "custom" palette and colors of Data > Series 1-12 chosen in "chart" palette (or wherever). Well Data Series 13 wasnt defined in the old standard palette, so if it is a different color than the one automatically generated internally by LO, it would have to go under the custom palette. > Additionally the whole options dialog of charts default colors must be > revamped or deleted at all. The "chart colors" list will be obsolete if > chart colors will have their own palette. Once we have chart color presets added to the wizard and chart type dialogs (bug 90307, bug 90490), that tab in the options dialog would be obsolete. For me this bug should be closed. @Heiko: Whats your take?
Benjamin uses the 12 predefined chart colors. And Eve can change the chart color palette - somehow. That was the idea to introduce it, right? Otherwise, if chart colors are taken from the standard color palette the processing fits perfectly in the supposed workflow. And yes, the tools > options > chart > colors tab is another one that needs work.
(In reply to Heiko Tietze from comment #2) > And Eve can change the chart color palette - somehow. Somehow is interesting because it's one of the questions in this bug. :)
(In reply to Thomas Lendo from comment #3) > Somehow is interesting because it's one of the questions in this bug. :) Even with the old standard palette, you could only choose colors from the palette to use for chart colors, so what would be needed there is the ability to pick any color from any palette and any color through the color picker dialog, which Regina mentions in bug 105225 comment 1.

Version: 7.1.0.0.alpha0+ (x64) Build ID: ffe503b62f9a508285ed06ef977f91604130579a CPU threads: 12; OS: Windows 10.0 Build 18363; UI render: Skia/Vulkan; VCL: win Locale: de-AT (de_AT); UI: en-US Calc: threaded Now the user can define "Chart Colors" in Tools > Options > Charts > Default Colors. This list can be edited and extended by any color palette. The color palette "chart-palettes" is only one of the palettes which can be used to define chart colors. The defined colors in the Options dialog only take effect in new charts, not in existing ones. Existing charts can only be changed with the Area dialog tab in miscellaneous places when editing a chart. Therefore I close this bug as WORKSFORME.
