1. Open the fields-dialog => document 2. Choose the type "page" 3. The selection "page count" is missing, although you can insert a field "page count" via insert => field => page count. That is inconsistent. By the way: I also would change "page numbers" to "page number" (like in the menu-entry)

There is another problem correlated with this. When I want my page numbering to start with the first page that holds actual content after title page and table of content and I want page numbers on the page formatted like page page namber of pages pages always contains the total number of pages in the document. I now you have a title page two pages table of content and maybe an additional page table of figures this results in 4 additional pages. As a result the page numbering on the last page with let's say 9 pages content reads page 9 of 13 which is irritating for the reader. The only workaround currently known is to add a textmark at the last paragraph of the the content and use a page referenz to that textmark instead of the pages variable. Ideally the number of pages of content should be dynamically calculated based on the page marker at the beginning of the area to count.
Ulrich, you encountered another problem that isn't part of this bug report. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 45048 ***

That is inconsistent. Sounds easy to rename but I thinks it's more complicated. What's with the other field names (Pages, Tables, etc.)? They also must be renamed for sake of consistency. > By the way: I also would change "page numbers" to "page number" (like in the > menu-entry) See bug 120395.

That's bug 71583.
