Description Jordi March Nogué 2017-07-06 16:01:43 UTC
In Calc, after insert a chart, this chart is anchored to page. I believe is better anchor to cell.
Since persons believe is better the current mode. I suggest add this as an option (Tools|Options... -> LibreOffice|Calc|General -> Input settings): [ ] "Anchor chart to cell after insert".
Comment 1 Jordi March Nogué 2017-07-06 16:29:21 UTC
Perhaps a better solution but more complex, since then would be three types of anchor:
* Anchor to Page
* Anchor to Cell (with Chart resize on change the later and contained columns or rows).
* Anchor to Cell (WITHOUT Chart resize on change the later and contained columns or rows). [NEW OPTION!!]
Anchor to Cell is important when a columns or rows before de current cell of a Chart are modified (added, deleted or resized).
Same for Textbox....

Sounds as reasonable enhancement. There are similar requests for image, so I add that to See Also.
There could be both solutions:
- add option, as you suggested (Tools|Options... -> LibreOffice|Calc|General -> Input settings): [ ] "Anchor chart to cell after insert".
- add step 5. in Chart Wizard: Chart Position with options "To page" and "To cell" (and maybe 3rd option).

Don't forget a visual indicator, usually an anchor. If the second 'To Cell' option becomes real we should talk about better wording.

First of all I will explain why the second proposal.
I'm working with an spreadsheet with extensive pages and charts in different places. I create charts beside the corresponding table and give them the appropriate look and size.
But if I change the width of a column that passes through "behind" of an anchored chart situated many rows below (and then at that time I do not see on the screen), then the chart size will be changed, which for me (and I suppose for other people) is undesirable and annoying.
I recognize only one situation where the resizing of an object is useful. It is the case of an anchored arrow between two cells. But I never used it.

Since making two anchor modes could be inconvenient, I make a NEW proposal (to replace my second one).
Add within the Options:
[ ] Do not modify the size of the anchored objects if it is not explicitly made.
Alternatively, as a new button in the toolbar of the main window.

I would also like to reiterate the desirability to have an "Anchor to Cell" option for charts in Calc. I would further propose that "Anchor to Cell" be the default setting as this is the behavior in Excel and eases the transition of people adopting LO Calc.

Anchor to cell - make it standard or insert as set up option

when inserting an image the current default mode anchor to page is confusing and not optimal
pls set as default anchor to cell or create the possibility to change the default standard in options
