Created attachment 138126 [details] Example file made with Excel 2013 When a chart has a very long label for a data point, Excel truncates the long label. Calc on the other hand does not truncate it, but reduces the chart area size instead. This results in a smaller graphical chart and a larger data label area. LO should be able to truncate long chart labels so that they fit in the available area.

Looking at my example file and Calc UI, I see a few things: LO does not have an explicit UI option to set the ellipsis property on the axis labels. Neither does Excel 2013 have one, it just automatically does it. Also we don't ellipsize long labels automatically; this would be the first to solve.
