Expected Results:
The fax printer should be saved.

Reproducible: Always

In LibO ...

... the fax printer is retained even after a restart (after a long pause).
Comment 2 Franklin Schiftan 2018-01-17 20:31:19 UTC
After resetting the user profile and then gradually copying back the individual files and folders from the old user profiles, the fax printer now also appears to be permanently stored under LibO 5.4.4.2.

Now it would only be desirable for LibO to issue a meaningful error message when using the 'Send standard fax' button, if no fax printer is set in the options.

To solve this problem one would probably have to either change the heading of this bug or create a new bug, right? However, I have no idea what the more sensible way is.
Comment 3 Gisbert Juch 2018-01-18 13:42:43 UTC
I think, the more sensible way is to create a new bug, because we have different problems:
The first is, that the user profile was corrupted in unknown way. More security for the user profile should be neccesary, because it was not the only circumstance...
The second is more distinguished: The program is simulating the fax would be sent.
The user assumes that the fax receiver has gotten the correct document. This may lead to a juristic trouble for him in extremly case. Recognised: the user has not defined the fax printer, but the program has to ensure the error handling.
Comment 4 Timur 2018-01-23 18:33:32 UTC
I also have no issue whit retaining selected fax, so that is Invalid.
This bug can be renamed to this warning, if I understood well, but issue should be explained in detail.
I guess you added "Send default fax" button to toolbar (that's not in default configuration).
If I do it, and fax is not set, it gives the warning. So I'll close this bug.
But please feel free to set back to Unconfirmed if you disagree.

And, if you clean a profile, I don't see why you would copy back the individual files and folders. Please don't do it, but make new settings wiht LO and than save that working profile.
Comment 5 Franklin Schiftan 2018-01-23 19:15:32 UTC
Now I get the desired error message (see attachment) even if there is no fax printer set in the options, which hadn't come before.

This makes also the bug 115126 obsolete.

After each partial copy back of my individual profile-files and -folders to the new profile, I tried out whether the error occurred again or not to find out which part of my old profile might have been the cause.

My current registrymodifications.xcu is about 3 MB in size. If I had to redo all these settings manually, I would probably have to spend a month on them, so it's out of the question, especially since it worked again - so I didn't find out where the cause was exactly in the old profile.

Besides, I don't really need the fax printer, I only re-enacted the bug for another user in the German user mailing list and then gave up the bug, after I was able to re-enact it with my previous profile. ;-)

Comment 7 Gisbert Juch 2018-01-25 16:23:24 UTC
I think, the information may be helpful:
In my file registrymodifications.xcu stands
<item oor:path="/org.openoffice.Office.Writer/Print/Output">
- <prop oor:name="Fax" oor:op="fuse">
  <value>Fax</value>
  </prop>
  </item>
But if I open Tools - Options - LibreOffice Writer, the Fax Printer is shown as empty.
And it is  a m a z i n g:
If I edit a Writer template and during this time I set the Fax Printer field in the user options to "Fax". After this I save the template and close LibreOffice. Now I restart LibreOffice, create a new document using this changed template, look at Tools - Options - LibreOffice Writer: the Fax Printer field is set to "Fax" correctly. When I create a new Writer document by using any other template, the appropriate Fax Printer field is shown as empty. Result: the Fax Printer field in the user options is depending on template and document? Unbelievable.
I don't believe, that it is helpful to determine general, the user options area is corrupted and the onliest helpful action should be to rebuild the user options...
Comment 8 Gisbert Juch 2018-02-16 09:52:09 UTC
I've installed the 6.0.1 version.
Now it seems that the Fax-field in Tools-Options-LibreOffice Writer remains like it is set previously. This is in standard mode and in save mode. That means, now it is not depending on the template or document as described in comment 7. May it be the failure is repaired in 6.0.1?

Dear Franklin Schiftan,
Could you please try to reproduce it with the latest version of LibreOffice
from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/libreoffice-fresh/ ?
I have set the bug's status to 'NEEDINFO'. Please change it back to
'UNCONFIRMED' if the bug is still present in the latest version.
Comment 10 Franklin Schiftan 2018-03-19 17:45:25 UTC
In the meantime I had thought that the problem had been solved, but it doesn't seem to have been solved in any case.

I tried it with Version: 6.0.2.1 (x64)
Build-ID: f7f06a8f319e4b62f9bc5095aa112a65d2f3ac89
CPU-Threads: 8; BS: Windows 10.0; UI-Render: GL;
Gebietsschema: de-DE (de_DE); Calc: CL

The "normal" process of creating a Writer document in a new profile using one of the templates provided has the effect that the set fax printer remains permanently intact. So far, so good.

But when I open a document based on an old template, when this document is open, the fax printer field in the options is empty. As if this old template did not yet contain this field and therefore cannot display its contents correctly. (My guess)

Nevertheless, when the Send default fax command is triggered, the correctly set fax printer is called in all cases - even if it is not displayed in the document based on the old template.

I was wondering if it would help if I upload this old template here - but unfortunately it contains too much personal information, so it wouldn't be so good.

But I can tell you:

Could you please try to sanitize it before submitting it as described here -> https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/Bugzilla/Sanitizing_Files_Before_Submission ?
Comment 12 Franklin Schiftan 2018-03-20 11:38:50 UTC
No, because, with a short internet search I found the original template on this page[1] - and indeed, if I create a writer document based on this template, the fax printer field is empty again as long as the document created on this basis is open.

Putting back to UNCONFIRMED...
Comment 14 Dieter 2018-12-05 20:09:17 UTC
Franklin,

after reading all the comments, I'm not sure, what the bug is actually about. So my proposal is either
to change the bug summary and give a really short description of the problem (but only one proble) and some steps to reproduce
or to close this bug as RESOLVED INVALID (or WORKSFORME?) and open a new bug.
I would prefer the second option. What do you think?

Changed to NEEDINFO
Comment 15 Franklin Schiftan 2018-12-06 05:30:07 UTC
How I said before, for *me* it is not really a problem, so I changed the Status to closed.
