Description: Without warning, as I'm typing, LibreOffice writer crashes and just disappears. Steps to Reproduce: 1. I can't initiate any steps. It just happens randomly. No additional extensions other than what LibreOffice installs itself with. 2. 3. Actual Results: Instant crash as I'm writing (no formatting, just typing) Expected Results: Continue writing. Reproducible: Always User Profile Reset: Yes OpenGL enabled: Yes Additional Info: [Information automatically included from LibreOffice] Locale: en-US Module: TextDocument [Information guessed from browser] OS: Linux (All) OS is 64bit: yes User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:59.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/59.0
Did it happen with a specific document or with different documents? Can you add a link to the crash report?
It happened on two different documents within the past couple of days. One small, one big. Where does LibreOffice save its crash log files? I'm trying to look them up.
(In reply to Vassilis Kontodimas from comment #2) > Where does LibreOffice save its crash log files? I'm trying > to look them up. Normally a message appears after a crash with the link of the crash log file.
The only thing that happened - both times - was that LibreOffice Writer just disappeared without any trace. No window emerged other than the recovery one after I re-run it.
Does it work if you disable OpenGl ? -> https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/OpenGL I have set the bug's status to 'NEEDINFO'. Please change it back to 'UNCONFIRMED' if the issue is still present
I just disabled hardware acceleration & will notify you if the problem persists (hopefully get a log-link to send you if it happens). I have another 400 pages worth of editing, so it's a good testing ground. My suspicion is that it could be OpenGL related. I have noticed several issues with KDEnlive when the MovIt is activated & one of them is the same insta-crash. This has happened on different machines, featuring both nVidia and AMD cards, with proprietary and open source drivers. The graphics cards are: nVidia 580GTX 1.5GB - proprietary (did not test Libre there) ATI 5870 1GB - open source (tested version 5 of Libre, no issues - KDEnlive had similar crashes) nVidia 425M 1 GB - proprietary 390.48 (laptop - had the two crashes here - KDEnlive had similar crashes) AMD RX480 8GB - open source (same behavior on KDEnlive - Libre crashed once with the same manner) Distros tested on: Arch, Manjaro, Fedora I'll let you know if I encounter another crash of this type with hardware acceleration disabled. Thank you!
With hardware acceleration disabled, it just crashed again. No window for info/log link. Same as before, which means it's not OpenGL related.
Created attachment 141266 [details] LibreOffice Writer core dump I had another crash, this time on XFCE environment with hardware acceleration disabled. I looked into the logs & retrieved the core dump (which I'm attaching). I hope this can help?

This exact same phenomena is occurring with me as well, I'll be typing and suddenly it's like the computer acts as if it was coming back from an idle mode, and begins asking for a password to leave idle mode. I enter the password and the system opens as usual, but my document and LibreOffice must be reopened and anything I was typing up till that moment it froze is gone, and must be entered again. Had to change the autosave to the highest frequency. This happens while using LibreOffice non stop - at last count at least 15 times over the course of an hours work. I began using just the simple txt editor to write and then only open LibreOffice when I'm ready to add the text.
@Spintendo, are you using XFCE as well? @Vissilis, Could you please paste the info from Help - about LibreOffice ? I have set the bug's status to 'NEEDINFO'. Please change it back to 'UNCONFIRMED' once the information has been provided
