Description Sebastian@SSpaeth.de 2018-08-20 11:07:29 UTC
Description:
Libreoffice bundles the DejaVu fonts into c:\Windows\Fonts. They are visible and usable in Libreoffice, but they seem corrupt. For 1, they are NOT listed in the Windows font viewer, and 2) they crash GIMP 2.10 whenever starting. After deinstalling these fonts, GIMP starts just fine.

This is a commonly reported GIMP crasher bug (see https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gimp/issues/1366 ), see there for a crash report in glib. It seems that the offending fonts are: "Sans" and "Deja Sans".

Steps to Reproduce:
1) Install Libreoffice, it will put fonts into c:\Windows\Fonts
1) Start the GIMP. It crashes related to fonts. (https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gimp/issues/1366 )
2) Delete the DejaVu fonts from the computer
3) GIMP starts without crashing

Actual Results:
GTK applications crash

Expected Results:
GTK applications should not crash

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

OpenGL enabled: Yes

Did you upgrade your gimp to 2.10.4

I have these fonts installed, linux OS, but no crash

if the problem still occurs upgrade glib and gimp, after all its not our bug

If not agree with a not our bug, you can reopen the report as unconfirmed

Xavier I think you mixed up cause (fonts) and consequence (Gimp) here.

Sebastian, there's Bug 97982 which is about fonts being damaged after an upgrade.
You don't mention how you got corrupt fonts, but if it's after upgrade - I and don't see other way - do you agree this be marked as a duplicate?
Comment 3 Sebastian@SSpaeth.de 2018-08-21 07:29:04 UTC
Yes, I might be seeing the corrupt fonts on update issue. I will deinstall the fonts and see if a clean reinstallation helps.

Actually, close this one as invalid. A reboot after the Libreoffice upgrade fixed things and they are working just fine now.
