Description Roland Taylor 2018-11-10 20:06:58 UTC
Description:
Since upgrading to 6.1 in Ubuntu 18.10, transitions no longer work, on multiple systems.

This only occurs on Linux, as the Windows systems we use don't have this problem.

One system is using Nvidia graphics with the proprietary driver, the other, Intel Graphics (Sandy Bridge era). In the past, some transitions were broken on the intel system due to the lack of support for the OpenGL extensions in use. However, now, both systems have no transitions at all.

• Hardware acceleration is enabled on both.
• OpenGL is disabled unless you disable the blacklist, but this doesn't help.
• The problem occurs in both Plasma and Gnome, and even other environments.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Create a presentation.
2. Add a transition.
3. Cry, because it doesn't work.

Actual Results:
No transitions play. Instead, there is a black screen or black area (when previewing), for the duration of the transition.

Expected Results:
Play the transition.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: Yes

OpenGL enabled: Yes

Additional Info:
This is a regression.

Does it work if you disable OpenGl ? -> https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/OpenGL

I have set the bug's status to 'NEEDINFO'. Please change it back to
'UNCONFIRMED' if the issue is still present

In the description I mentioned that OpenGL is disabled.
Comment 5 Roland Taylor 2019-01-16 20:30:27 UTC
My mistake - I see where the confusion comes in.

OpenGL is disabled normally. It is when I disable blacklisting that it is enabled. Either way, neither option works. Something seems to up with LibreOffice and OpenGL in general.

I can confirm the same. I have made a point to dabble with Impress every time there is a new major release.

To date, OpenGL has *never* worked properly, going all the way back to when LibreOffice came into existence. I have tried using the OpenGL transitions with every conceivable configuration of OS. Various flavours of Windows, Mac and Linux.

I have gotten the transitions working exactly once: With the latest v6.1 (as a Flatpak specifically, the default distro install doesn't work...), on Linux Mint 19.1, using the Intel graphics driver. When I tried using the nvidia drivers (both proprietary and nouveau), the screen flickered badly during the transition.

I don't know where the problem lies, but it seems to me that the OGL implementation in Impress is just hopelessly broken.

A new major release of LibreOffice is available since this bug was reported.
Could you please try to reproduce it with the latest version of LibreOffice
from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/libreoffice-fresh/ ?
I have set the bug's status to 'NEEDINFO'. Please change it back to
'UNCONFIRMED' if the bug is still present in the latest version.
