Description Lars Jødal 2019-02-24 17:30:56 UTC
Description:
The "insert special character" dialogue has the useful feature that the (English) name of a character can be entered. However, for the Greek letter lambda, the name is mistakenly spelled "LAMDA" (without B) rather than LAMBDA. This applies to both lower- and uppercase.
I noticed this as I typed "lamb" and only the character LAMBDA WITH BAR became visible. Restricing to "lam", I could see the character.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. In e.g. Writer: Insert > Special character
2. Type LAMB in the "Seek" field

Actual Results:
Only the character "lambda with stroke" is shown

Expected Results:
Also lambda, uppercase lambda and small uppercase lambda should be shown. These can be found by just typing LAM, and it can be seen that the names miss the "b" i lambda.

Reproducible: Always

I'm not an expert but would say it's not a bug, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lambda and this part:
"
Unicode uses the spelling "lamda" in character names, instead of "lambda", due to "preferences expressed by the Greek National Body"
"

Not a bug. We do not maintain English names or translate characters to any other language. Rather, we observe the current Unicode standard definitions for character names/spellings.

Those are the the Unicode standard's character names from the Greek & Coptic block of the Basic Multilingual Plane:

Λ -- U+039B GREEK CAPITAL LETTER LAMDA
λ -- U+03BB GREEK SMALL LETTER LAMDA:lambda

But also, Unicode uses it in the Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block of the Supplementary Multiligual Plane:
𝚲 -- U+1D6B2 MATHEMATICAL BOLD CAPITAL LAMDA
𝛌 -- U+1D6CC MATHEMATICAL BOLD SMALL LAMDA
𝛬 -- U+1D6EC MATHEMATICAL ITALIC CAPITAL LAMDA
𝜆 -- U+1D706 MATHEMATICAL ITALIC SMALL LAMDA
𝜦 -- U+1D726 MATHEMATICAL BOLD ITALIC CAPITAL LAMDA
𝝀 -- U+1D740 MATHEMATICAL BOLD ITALIC SMALL LAMDA
𝝠 -- U+1D760 MATHEMATICAL SANS-SERIF BOLD CAPITAL LAMDA
𝝺 -- U+1D77A MATHEMATICAL SANS-SERIF BOLD SMALL LAMDA
𝞚 -- U+1D79A MATHEMATICAL SANS-SERIF BOLD ITALIC CAPITAL LAMDA
𝞴 -- U+1D7B4 MATHEMATICAL SANS-SERIF BOLD ITALIC SMALL LAMDA

And there are other code points that use the same spelling:

ᴧ -- U+1D207 GREEK LETTER SMALL CAPITAL LAMDA (from Phonetic Extensions block)

-- U+1038D UGARITIC LETTER LAMDA (from Ugaritic block)
