@cpoimboeuf : can you tell us a bit more please about the type of Access database:

- which bit type of Access was used to create it (32bit or 64bit ?)
- Access 365 or a different version ?
- how are you attempting to connect to that accdb file ?
- which drivers have you installed (version number and 32bit or 64bit) ?

Does it stop crashing if you delete AppData/Roaming/Libreoffice/4 ?
Comment 3 cpoimboeuf 2020-01-15 17:22:35 UTC
Alex Thurgood,

Thanks for your quick response.

    1.Deleting AppData/Roaming/Libreoffice/4 does not help
    2.Access 32 bit
    3.Access 2010
4.I'm trying to connect using LibreOffice Base
I don't know what you mean by "what drivers have you installed?" The PC I'm using has 64 bit Windows 10 as the OS. I have used Driver Booster 7 to update drivers.

Could you give a try with LO 6.4.3?
Indeed 6.2 branch is EOL and 6.3 branch will be EOL soon.

Thank you, Julien. I have tried 6.4.3, and the result is the same: "The connection to the data source New Database could not be established. The connection could not be created. Maybe the necessary data provider is not installed." Then the crash occurs.

cpoimboeuf: thank you for your feedback

Jean-Pierre: thought you might be interested in this one since it concerns Access.

@cpoimboeuf,

please could you provide more details about how to reproduce the incident and give a database sample ?

Thanks.

A sample Access database with only one table

Mr. Ledure, using the LibreOffice Database Wizard, I choose Connect to an Existing Database and Microsoft Access 2007. Then I browse to the database file. After that I choose Yes, Register the Database for me and Open the Database for Editing. Then I enter the name of the odb file. When I click on Save, I get the error "The connection to the data source 'City' could not be established. The connection could not be created. May be the necessary data provider is not installed." When I click on OK, the crash occurs. I have attached a sample database file.

Hello,
Could you please try to reproduce it with the latest version of LibreOffice from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/libreoffice-fresh/ ?
I have set the bug's status to 'NEEDINFO'. Please change it back to 'UNCONFIRMED' if the bug is still present in the latest version.

Xisco Faulí,

The problem persists. I'm using LibreOffice 7.1 and my OS is Windows 10 on a 64 bit PC. I use the Database Wizard and my steps are as follows:
1.I choose Connect to Existing Database and the Microsoft Access Database 2007 option even though the one table database was created with Access 2016.
2.I choose Set up Microsoft Access Connection.
3.I select "city.accdb"
4.I choose Next
5.I Save As "city.odb"

The errors I get are "The connection to the data source 'city' could not be established" and "The connection could not be created. Maybe necessary data provider is not installed. SQL status HY000"

Then I click on File, and the crash occurs.

I could not reproduce:

Version: 24.2.1.2 (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: db4def46b0453cc22e2d0305797cf981b68ef5ac
CPU threads: 8; OS: Windows 10.0 Build 22631; UI render: Skia/Raster; VCL: win
Locale: en-US (en_US); UI: en-US
Calc: CL threaded

Followed the steps in comment 12. After Step 5, I did not get an error:

> The errors I get are "The connection to the data source 'city' could not be established" and "The connection could not be created. Maybe necessary data provider is not installed. SQL status HY000"

I clicked File, I opened up the table and clicked a few things, and I couldn't get anything to crash. Looks like it loaded/ran "okay" for me.
