Description Rip van Winkle 2020-02-05 18:00:04 UTC
Description:
Under the Accessibility options in MacOS 10.15.2 I have 'Increase Contrast' turned on. While running LibreOffice 6.3.0.4, the menu item tabs in dialog windows are now all-black when selected, making them unreadable.

The highlighting - even when increase contrast is off - is not helpful, as it seems to reduce contrast between the text and the background.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Turn on 'increase contrast' in macOS Accessibility panel
2. Open Writer
3. Open any dialog window with tabs (export, paragraph, etc)

Actual Results:
The selected Tab is all-black, hiding the text title of the tab.

Expected Results:
The selected tab should be visually distinct from non-selected tabs, and the title of the tab should be the most readable of all the tabs.

Reproducible: Always

possibly related to ticket 125532: black chars when selected, instead of white

No repro with

and default macOS theme.

If I open the context menu Page, for example, in a Writer document, the background is deep blue with black text.

Are you using a different OS theme ?

@RipvanWinkle :your screenshot shows tabs that are in black/white - how did you get those ? Just activating the "Increase Contrast" option under system preferences doesn't give me that look.

I have a fairly vanilla macOS install on a 12" Macbook. I use the system 'light' theme. In System Preferences->Accessibility->Display I have 'increase contrast' and 'reduce motion' checked off. Switching 'increase contrast' on and off changes the menu highlighting from blue to black.

I'm not sure what other settings I might need to check here. Can you post an image of your menus when you have 'increase contrast' turned on? I've posted images of the menus when mine is switched on and off. I have a MBP at work I can check this on tonight, I suppose it's possible that it's an issue with the graphics implementation in the Macbook 12.

If you have suggestions for what other system or display settings I might check, please share.

The behavior is the same for the 6.3.4 version:

Version: 6.3.4.2
Build ID: 60da17e045e08f1793c57c00ba83cdfce946d0aa
CPU threads: 4; OS: Mac OS X 10.15.2; UI render: default; VCL: osx;

I'll test the MBP tonight and see if I can duplicate.

I'm using the same system theme.

The difference that I see is that with increased contrast on, I get dark blue buttons, but the text is still visible. With contrast off, I get a pale blue button background.

The testing was carried out on a macMini 2014, with Intel Iris 1536 Mo graphics card. Screenshots attached for comparison.

Not sure what else to suggest. My macMini is connected to an external 1080p display (1920x1080) if that makes any difference.
Comment 15 Rip van Winkle 2020-02-08 17:02:40 UTC
@AlexThurgood
I tested with MBP and could not replicate, so I'm assuming it's a graphics quirk of the underpowered MB 12. Probably won't dig into it, because I think that if the highlighted tab font was changed to white (as it is in native menu tabs per bug report 125532) this wouldn't be an issue.

Can this get closed as duplicate of that bug?
