Description bachibouzouc 2020-03-19 10:00:20 UTC
Hello, I cannot insert a video into an impress free office slide. I open a document in "ppt" with images, I launch the slideshow which works very well. If I insert a video in "avi", I view the slideshow and the video. If I save this "ppt" document, and want to open it again, the video file is gone. If I save it in "odt", it works, but all my friends are not free office

cannot reproduce on LO 6.4.1.2, Linux, VCL kf5, locale de-de.

Please provide a detailed step-by-step description of how you inserted the video file into the presentation.

might be a duplicate of #131310, though I cannot confirm either one of them here.
Comment 7 bachibouzouc 2020-03-22 09:53:36 UTC
Hello,
Following your request, I will try to detail these steps.
1) I use version 6.4.1.2 of Libre Office
2) I insert my images which are in a folder
3) In one of these slides, I insert a small avi video which is in another folder.
4) I save everything in pps under "Power Point 97-2003 (* .ppt)
5) Without closing the slideshow, I start the slideshow, or each slideshow advances at the "click" of the mouse.
6) When I get to the slide with my video, I see "a fraction of a second" the video appear,
the sound is also present, but instead of the image of my video an all black surface.
Hoping to have answered your request. Thanks for your help.

thank you.
How exactly did you insert the image under your no 2?
I am asking that because there are multiple ways to insert an image.
Comment 9 bachibouzouc 2020-03-22 21:46:19 UTC
Good evening, to insert this video, I clicked on the "Insert" tab and I selected "Movies and sounds", indicating the path where this * .avi file was located

Hello,
I found a workaround for this video that appears on the slide and disappears as soon.
First, I changed the format of my video which was * .avi, to * .wmv
Instead of giving the path to my video in my slide, I dragged and dropped this video from its storage location in the slide, and everything works fine
Comment 11 Oliver Grimm 2020-03-24 21:23:01 UTC
Your workaround contains two steps. Can you please try to
1: change the file type to wmv and include it via menu AND
2: do not change the file type but drag the AVI file into the presentation (instead of using the menu for inserting)

After trying these two alternatives, please let us know which of them has fixed the problem. Thank you.

Hello, I just did 4 esais by numbering each slideshow from 1 to 4, and after each modification, I saved the slideshows.
The n ° 1 was with the menu "Insertion / sound or video" by indicating the place where is this file * .avi
No. 2 with the "Insertion / sound or video" menu, indicating the location of this * .wmv file
# 3 with "drag and drop" * .avi file
# 4 with "drag and drop" * .wmv file
For n ° 1 and 2 the video does not start and the image is replaced by an icon representing a piece of film.
For n ° 3 and n ° 4 drag and drop works very well.
A question outside of my subject. In the toolbar, I do not see the big letter "T" appear how to make it appear? Thank you for your help
Good day, I am at your disposal

P.S I manage less and less to find how to connect to this forum, not knowing a word of English, I am looking blind, hence my delay in answering some times.
Comment 13 Oliver Grimm 2020-03-27 21:42:21 UTC
Thank you for trying. In that case, I'd say this problem is not related to the included files themselves but to the process of inserting them.

Did you check the button "include as link" in the file dialog when inserting the video? then please try to uncheck it when inserting.

From which device and folder did you try to insert the file? Was it a removable disc or drive or a network/cloud folder?

For the latter question please provide a step-by-step description of how exactly you inserted the video (what did you click/type in which order) or attach a recorded desktop video.

Hello friends.
I thought my video problem in my slideshow solved, but it is not. At home it works because the 2 sound files (wmv) are in my PC, but when I send this slideshow to relatives, the videos do not work. I have to send the 2 "wmv" sound files they save to the desktop to a few, for the videos to work.

Dear bachibouzouc,

To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today, LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed bugs which have not been touched for over a year.

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in getting confirmation that the bug is still present.

If you have time, please do the following:

Test to see if the bug is still present with the latest version of LibreOffice from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/

If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice.

If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice.

Please DO NOT

Update the version field
Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker)
Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular meaning that is not
appropriate in this case)

If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a REGRESSION. To do so:
1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from https://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/

2. Test your bug
3. Leave a comment with your results.
4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo';
4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add 'regression' to keyword
