Description lee.zar 2020-04-21 19:01:13 UTC
Description:
A crash occurs when multiple .ods files are open and I close one of them using the "x" box. The files have VBasic macros both shared and local to each file but the failure occurs even if no macro is invoked. This happens about half the time when I close a file, and occurs regardless of whether the files were saved prior to closing. LO recovers all of the opened files successfully (including the one that was explicitly closed). The crash never occurs when a single file is open and closed. The problem also occurs if macros are disabled and when running LO in safe mode.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Open two .ods files
2.Update both files
3.Save both files
4.Close one file using the "x" box in the frame border

Actual Results:
LO will crash about half the time. It will go into recovery mode and restore both files successfully.

Expected Results:
The selected file will be closed without a crash.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Are you able to share the files that you encounter these issues with? That can make it easier to replicate, as I'm not sure that many have files with macros laying around

6.3 is still supported (6.3.6 is now out), but there is also a version 6.4.3 that you could try: https://www.libreoffice.org/download/download/

Long shot, but I see you're on Catalina that has some issues: Does the problem go away if you grant LO Full Disk Access? You can access that in System Preferences -> Security and Privacy -> Privacy

I have tried the suggestions you made. The problem still occus on LO 6.4.3. I also verified that LO has Full Disk Access. I will now try to provide a reproducible test case using files that I can send to you.
Thank you for your patience.

You may close this bug report. Although I was not able to come up with a repeatably test case for you to use, I recently updated macOS to version 10.15.5 and the problem no longer occurs. Most likely the problem was relaated to an issue within macOS that was resolved in the update. Should the problem recur in future, I will re-submit a bug report along with a usable test case.
