Description: When in center align mode the visual indicator for trailing spaces is missing. Without this you cannot see if you have typed zero, one, or 50 spaces at the end of your sentence. Once you type another character you will then see the visual indicator of spaces. If you then want to add or remove spaces you either have to move the cursor back somewhere in between the character you just typed and the previous non space character to retain the visual space indication while then backspacing or adding spaces or continually adding or removing spaces while periodically typing a non space character to 'check on your progress'. I have seen this mentioned over a year ago but it was argued that it wasn't really a bug (and I think dismissed?) But this is most definitely a bug and it affects me every day. I record daily activities and begin each day with a center justified date. Typing May 26, 2020 always affects me when the cursor does not move after hitting the space bar causing me to wonder if it took the space or not. Steps to Reproduce: 1.Set writer to left justified 2.type any word 3.type any number of spaces 4.change justification to center justified the spaces between the cursor and word disappear 5.change justification back to left justified the spaces between the cursor and word reappear Actual Results: when you are in center justified mode trailing space characters are not represented as evidenced by the cursor not advancing Expected Results: What is expected when in center justified mode is exactly the same as what is expected when in left or right justified mode. To see a visual representation of the characters you type, whether they are spaces or other characters. Reproducible: Always User Profile Reset: No OpenGL enabled: Yes Additional Info: Try typing in center justified mode for a while. Give yourself time to make an occasional typo and backspaces and changes. It is very disorienting.
I can't confirm this with Version: 7.0.0.0.alpha1+ (x64) Build ID: 0e5e935deb0527c64865cfcc53a0421e56b74b6f CPU threads: 4; OS: Windows 10.0 Build 18363; UI render: Skia/Raster; VCL: win Locale: de-DE (de_DE); UI: en-GB Calc: CL and also not with Version: 6.3.5.2 (x64) Build-ID: dd0751754f11728f69b42ee2af66670068624673 CPU-Threads: 4; BS: Windows 10.0; UI-Render: GL; VCL: win; Gebietsschema: de-DE (de_DE); UI-Sprache: de-DE Calc: threaded I assume, you've enabled "Toggle Formatting Marks", correct?
Created attachment 161837 [details] zip with problematic document and short mp4 illustrating the issue I see
It appears that bug 133047 may be a problem with just this particular document. And in my usage I delete the contents of this document every month and begin again.. using the same document, perpetuating the issue. A new document does not have this issue. In case anyone wishes to look into this document and see if it something that could possibly appear again for others I will try and attach this document to the bug sheet. But otherwise I imagine it can be closed. Additionally, while testing this document on another system, that system had version 5.2.something and it did not have the View→Formatting Marks. It also did not have the problem this document has. Spaces were correctly indicated regardless of justification. But once I installed 6.2 on this other machine, the problem is there. Again though, it’s just this document, not new documents.
Well I assumed this bug was just some issue with a single document. When I started my log with a new document the issue was not there. But beginning today this document is exhibiting the above mentioned issue. As illustrated previously, with Formatting Marks on and Left Justification you can see when typing a space the indicating dot is to the left of the End Of Line character. When in Center Justification the space indicating dot moves to the right of the End Of Line character.
(In reply to robb from comment #4) > Well I assumed this bug was just some issue with a single document. Is it O.K. fo you, if we close this bug then?
Whatever you want to do. If it was my product I would fix it. But trying to persuade others to fix their own product? I'll pass.
Thank you for reporting the bug. I can not reproduce the bug in libre office developer 7.1. When I reproduced it I still had the spaces.
Yea it appears to be intermittent. I attached a document previously that has the issue. I create a document and leave it open on my desktop for a month adding to it daily. At some point the issue begins. Thanks for checking. Just go ahead and close this please.
Ok, let's close. Note that you should never use the .doc format on a day-by-day basis. Always use the .odt format and only save to .doc as a version required by something specific. If you don't have a requirement to use .doc, don't use it. It is a legacy binary format.
