Description lthallmayer@comcast.net 2020-11-27 22:12:14 UTC
Alt-F menu automatically opens "New" submenu intermittently, so alt-f s opens a spreadsheet instead of saving

OS: Ubuntu 18.04 up-to-date on patches

Using the F10 key to open the menu works as expected

Tested for Writer and Calc

Mouse cursor position not the issue.

Basically I use Alt-F, S to save my current document and sometimes it opens a new spreadsheet instead.

Tried duplicating under Windows 7, didn't see it. But since it is intermittent I may not have tried enough.

Please provide the detailed version information of your LibreOffice, available at Help > About LibreOffice dialog (use the button after "Version" to copy the information and paste here), so that others can reproduce your problem.

FWIW, on Windows 7.0.2 Alt+F works as normal.

If it helps, I tried it on a different account on the same machine and had the same problem.

lthallmayer: are you still seeing this with a recent version?
Comment 8 lthallmayer@comcast.net 2024-04-16 11:27:54 UTC
No.

Currently using
Version: 7.6.6.3 (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 60(Build:3)
CPU threads: 6; OS: Linux 5.4; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3
Locale: en-US (en_US.UTF-8); UI: en-US
Ubuntu package version: 4:7.6.6-0ubuntu0.18.04.1~lo1
Calc: threaded

Ubuntu 18.04, up to date

I trained myself to use Ctrl-S instead to deal with the bug.

Used Alt-F with mouse cursor off of the menu area and it opened the "new" sub menu automatically but the focus is still in the main menu so when I type "s" it opens the save dialog box not a spreadsheet.

You said no, but the rest of the comment seems to be confirming the same unwanted behaviour, so I'll set back to unconfirmed.

Might be a quirk in the old Ubuntu.
Comment 10 lthallmayer@comcast.net 2024-04-16 12:29:35 UTC
I said "No" because with the bug typing the "s" would open a spreadsheet because the focus moved to the submenu.

While it is still opening the submenu, that is a similar but different problem.

Now "Alt- f S" saves the document as expected.

As this is rare to reproduce, would you consider bibisecting it with the linux-64-7.0 repository: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/Bibisect/Linux ?
Comment 13 asavage@iname.com 2024-10-23 18:16:06 UTC
In my case:
Ubuntu 24.04, x86, Wayland

I followed the instructions from the bibisect link you furnished to install/run LODev 6.4.0.0.alpha0+

The issue is present using this version on my system.

It is not present on an older Linux box I have found:

Ubuntu 18.04
LibreOffice 6.4.72

It has been suggested that this may be related to Wayland, rather than LO.

I have opened a bug at Launchpad about this:
