Description Albert Acer 2021-01-25 04:49:50 UTC
Description:
I am a volunteer LibreOffice tester on the Windows Operating System.

When I am testing LibreOffice 7.1 RC2, Spanish version, I can see that there are very noticeable differences in the Spanish translation established for both LO Writer 7.0.4 and LO Writer 7.1 RC2, in the Adjust submenu of the Format menu, as we can see in the screenshots I have prepared to support this report.

I can do this because I use more than one PC, then, on one or more machines I install the previous version of LibreOffice and, when I have time, on another machine I install and test the latest version that was released or that will be released. In this way I can establish comparisons between the latest versions of LO in Spanish, because that is my native language, to assess how this office package evolves.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open LibreOffice Writer 7.1 RC2, Spanish version.
2. Explore the Format Menu (in Spanish "Formato").
3. Click on Adjust submenu (in Spanish "Ajuste".

Actual Results:
When I also open the previous version of LO Writer (7.0.4), Spanish version, on another machine, I can see certain differences in spanish translation, between both versions, within the Adjust submenu. There are even two options, in that submenu, without translating into Spanish. This could induce novice users to confusion, mainly during the development of User manuals.

Expected Results:
I think it is important to try to reconcile and unify translations to avoid doubt and confusion.

Translation conflict between versions of LO Writer 7.1 RC2 and 7.0.4 in Spanish. Path: Format - Setting

In the screenshots I attached today, January-25-2021, we can see the differences in translations for the Adjust submenu (in Spanish "Ajuste") for both LO Writer 7.0.4 and LO Writer 7.1 RC2 in Spanish.

I believe that it is necessary to reconcile, define and unify the most appropriate and convenient translation, bearing in mind that in March LO 7.0.5 will also be released.
Comment 2 Adolfo Jayme Barrientos 2021-01-27 20:22:44 UTC
I think these strings became untranslated due to a mnemonic change in the source. I’ll fix it for 7.1.1 (unfortunately RC3 translations were committed already — I missed this for a few hours).
Comment 3 Adolfo Jayme Barrientos 2021-01-27 20:24:59 UTC
Oh, and the change from “Left/Right” to “Start/End” is intentional; not a bug! This change was made to account for those languages that are written from right to left, like Arabic and Hebrew, where any string with directionality is to be understood backwards.
Comment 4 Albert Acer 2021-01-27 21:27:33 UTC
Oh thank you for your illustration. This being the case, I understand it perfectly. So I think that in LO 7.0.5 the translation of these strings should be the same as it will be for LO 7.1.1, looking for coherence and unification of criteria.
Comment 5 Albert Acer 2021-02-18 10:41:11 UTC
The solution is not yet reflected in LO Writer 7.1.1 RC1.
In the screenshot that I attached today 18-Feb-2021 we can see that the translation errors are still there.

Unless I missed something, it's already fixed in tdf#143466
