Description hunhunhun 2021-02-05 09:36:36 UTC
Description:
Currently it is not possible to add additional and editable text areas in the master slides. But there would be great use for different kinds of presentations. For example I like to give the sources of images at the bottom of the slide. At the moment I have to create and align a text field on every single slide to accomplish this. It would be a great advancement to have the possibility to just add an additional field in the master slide.

I think this is a misconception of master slides being comparable to templates, which is not true. Similar request in bug 61894 "Not possible to create additional text placeholder in master slide" was closed.

The content area is a place holder for any kind of content whether text or picture and can be split per Layout into up to six fields. About Layout, we have bug 112002 to "Make presentation layouts editable" and bug 78156 requesting "Custom Slide Layouts", for example.

If you mean to add master content in general, keep in mind that we are restricted by the open document format. Changes have to work cross-platform and -application. That's not necessarily a blocker for ODF enhancements but actually I don't see need for this.

Then what is the difference between templates and master slides? In PowerPoint the master slides are also called master templates, so there is actually no difference.

I know this, but the behavior is not what I intend to do/have. If I work on a presentation where I want to have a text field for footnotes on every single slide except for the title slide, there is actually no other way to have this text field on every slide than adding, adjusting and formatting it manually on every single slide which is painstaking for no real reason.*
The layout can only be changed in normal edit view and after editing one of the text fields the formatting (of text) will apply to the other text fields, too. Also it will not apply to a new slide.

*The only work around is, to create a slide with text area for the footnotes and then copy and paste it. But using the button 'New slide' or 'Ctrl+M' will not give a copy of the main design or template or whatever we should call it.

I have no idea what the restriction are with the ODF, but I think there is a need for this as you can see with the repeated requests for this. Just calling them dublicates and remind of the closed status of the original request will not solve the issue.

But thank you anyway for your time.

I would agree with @hunhunhun in PowerPoint you can easily use different master slides and design for each so called layout master, where you can make presets, can write texts and design own layouts. It would be great if it would be implemented in LibreOffice too.

PP works in the same way as Impress. You can use different master slides, of course.

The request was to make it possible to add random variable fields, which is not possible. And even text boxes cant be added there since you apply a layout on this particular master switching from one text box to two or more.
