Description Ron 2021-07-03 00:02:42 UTC
Description:
Calc "Freeze Rows and Columns" is set in my case to freeze at cell K3. It works after setting, but frequently loses the setting after saving the sheet, and the sheet acts like no freeze was done. However, the checkbox for View -> Freeze cells -> Freeze Rows and Columns is still checked on. To fix the problem I have to uncheck the box, then re-select the K3 cell, then re-check the box.
This is running under Linux Mint 19.3 and the Libre app data is as follows:

Version: 6.0.7.3
Build ID: 1:6.0.7-0ubuntu0.18.04.10
CPU threads: 2; OS: Linux 5.4; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3;
Locale: en-US (en_US.UTF-8); Calc: group

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Set rows and columns to freeze cells at a certain cell.
2. Do work and save the sheet.
3. Reopen the sheet and sometimes the sheet will act as if no freeze was done, even though the feature is still checked on.

Actual Results:
Random loss of frozen cells on reopening sheet

Expected Results:
Have to uncheck Freeze Rows and columns, then re-select the key cell, then re-check Freeze Rows and Columns to re-establish frozen rows and columns.

Reproducible: Sometimes

User Profile Reset: Yes

OpenGL enabled: Yes

Additional Info:
The software should have a bug-free way of saving Freeze Rows and Columns settings so they don't get randomly dropped.

Please, can you attach a sample file where the issue happen.
Comment 2 pierre_aussaguel 2021-10-22 09:56:11 UTC
Hello,
I have noticed the same problem for a long time. Noticed it on 2 different systems using Debian on amd64 arch. Both are double screen system.

It happen on any spreadsheet I use.

There are 2 ways to reproduce it :
1.1 : open a spreadsheet with an active freezing. That works
then

1.a : move the LibreOffice windows to the other screnn. The freeze is lost. It is still checked in the menu.

or

1.b : activate the lateral bar (by pressing F11 for exemple). The freeze is also lost.

Whoever set this to NEEDINFO status unfortunately failed to communicate what information was needed. A sample file showing the issue was already submitted, and the problem still continues to occur intermittently. The sample file is again attached, and should reproduce on a machine similar to the one described.

It's been over a year now, and this problem is still occurring in Calc version 7.3.6.2. Is anyone ever going to fix this problem?
Comment 8 Buovjaga 2023-02-14 18:11:06 UTC
No problem for me with the example file. I edited some data, saved and reloaded and rows 1 and 2 were still frozen.

Arch Linux 64-bit, X11
Version: 7.6.0.0.alpha0+ (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 9ee1b714c13db308c199172ffa0199405ca3d9c3
CPU threads: 8; OS: Linux 6.1; UI render: default; VCL: kf5 (cairo+xcb)
Locale: fi-FI (fi_FI.UTF-8); UI: en-US
Calc: threaded
Built on 14 February 2023
Comment 9 Ron 2023-02-14 19:35:18 UTC
Replying to Comment 8: The problem is not consistently repeatable, and may depend on some variable background factors or usage sequences. Since others have had this problem (Comment 2) and it has since carried over to Linux Mint v. 21 running on a different motherboard, it is not likely due to hardware or operating system. The original file started out as an Excel file under Windows where it worked fine, and was later converted to an .ods file for Libre Office where all except this feature still work fine.

Ron: do you reproduce the issue using these ways (lateral bar meaning Sidebar)?
Comment 11 Ron 2023-02-14 21:23:51 UTC
Response to Comment 10:
Changing tabs does not remove the freeze in my system, nor does pressing F11 on and off for the styles sidebar. My problem reproduces only when I save and close the file, then reopen it a few days later. The feature is still checked on, but the freeze is lost.

Hello Buovjaga,

I do not have another screen to move the Calc windows to, so cannot determine that question.

Activating the lateral bar by pressing F11 does NOT lose the freeze. The freeze is lost only when I save the file and reopen it later.

I see that Libre Office is at Version 7.6 now. Has this bug been fixed yet?

Ron and Colin, does this still happen in recent versions? Please test 7.6.
Thank you!

Sorry, my distribution of Libre Office in Linux Mint 21 is only up to version 7.3.7.2. Updating without the package manager has never worked out well for me. Will have to wait until they catch up with this version. Thanks!

You could try an appimage from https://appimages.libreitalia.org/

For running it, see here: https://www.libreoffice.org/download/appimage/

THANK YOU for this info about the appimage. I picked the one labeled "LibreOffice-7.6.2.1.basic-x86_64.AppImage" hoping it would be the right one. After downloading and double-clicking it as an executable, the LibreOffice screen showing recent files immediately appeared, so it didn't seem like anything was executing. Later I noticed that the version now showed 7.6.2.1, so apparently it must have installed instantly. So far my Calc file that had the trouble with losing column/row freezes seems to be working OK through a save and reopen, so now time will tell if this random problem reoccurs. Thank you again.
Ron

Thanks for testing, let's close for now.

Note that appimages are not installed as such - they are self-contained programs. Kind of like portable Windows programs.
