Description Dominik Lenné 2021-10-25 21:30:52 UTC
Description:
I'd like to set indentation of lists via the "List Paragraph" style, but this seems to be impossible. The "List Paragraph" indentation has no effect, instead the direct formatting indentation is applied always.
So, if you want to change list indentations of a large document at once, you have to do it for every list separately.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. create bullet list
2. set indentation as you want in - F11 - List Paragraph - change - indentation
3. apply ctr m (clear direct formatting)

Actual Results:
"List paragraph" indentation setting have no effect.
Direct formatting indentation settings are not reset to zero.

Expected Results:
Direct formatting indentation is set to zero and made ineffectual to allow "List Paragraph" style indentation settings to apply.

It might be made effectual again by being set to another value than zero, or by some checkbox "use direct formatting" with default "no".

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
Fresh installation on a fresh hard disk on windows 10.

The opengl checker download page is overloaded with clickbaits, and the file is labelled on virustotal as "malicious" by one antimalware provider, so i refrained from using it.

It looks like the bullets are being set directly. Turn off the direct setting of bullets for those paragraphs and set them through the style. It should work then.
Comment 3 Dominik Lenné 2021-10-26 00:30:41 UTC
What do you mean exactly by "bullets set directly" and by "turn off direct setting of bullets"? Which dialog window, which setting in the dialog window?
I indeed changed the bullet type to "empty circle", but the behaviour described is independent of the bullet type.

The list style must be defined in the "Outline & List" tab of the paragraph style for the indentation to be properly applied.

This issue depends on bug #114287.

I'm waiting for someone else to agree but I think we should mark as duplicates bug #83532 and this one. Inconsistent behaviour between list and paragraph is source of recurrent reports.
Comment 5 David 2021-10-26 18:19:33 UTC
In order for the attached document to work properly, the bulleted paragraphs need to be selected then the bullets button in the toolbar needs to be turned off to undo the direct formatting. Direct formatting and the use of automatic styles should not be mixed. Either do one or the other. As was mentioned in the previous comment, set bullets and outlining through the Outline & List tab in the style settings.

IMO this is not a bug. The formatting works as expected when the styles are properly used.

Comment 8 Dominik Lenné 2021-10-27 01:14:15 UTC
Ok i get it now.

I noticed a cool thing: by clicking on the bullet list tool with some text with "list paragraph" style, the formatting cycles through the following states:

1. no bullet list
2. direct formatting
3. the formatting of the "list paragraph" style

Well it was a bit hard to grasp...

There is a peculiarity though. Decreasing the paragraph indentation of "list paragraph" from .8 to .7 cm , the 1st line jumps to the left much more than .1 cm and stays at the new position for all smaller indentation values, while the 2nd and following lines move as intended. Maybe another bug report. (see screenshot)

In any case I thank you for your work, cheers!

Handling of list and paragraph indents has bugs in LibreOffice. But we have already bug reports for that. Therefore I set it as duplicate to bug 92762 and depends on bug #114287.
