Description Linux 2022-02-06 13:04:02 UTC
Description:
Sometimes you need to move a footnote to a new page.
For example, on the first page there are several footnotes and there is a lot of text in them, then it becomes necessary to transfer the footnote to the second page.
On the second page, we may or may not have footnotes.
But on the second page, we have to continue the footnote from the first page.
Default separator line length 25%.
But if this is a continuation of the footnote on a new page, then the length of the separator line should be 100%, that is, the entire width of the page.

Footnote continuation example:
First page.
Text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text¹.
____
¹ First footnote on first page: text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text te-

Text on the next page.
A 30-minute pre-show performance kicked off at 19:30, featuring square dancers aged from five to over 70 years old. Apart from the live performances, people from other Chinese cities joined the pre-show performances through video recording. The pre-show performance is done primarily by residents of Beijing and Hebei province, showcasing the passion of the Chinese people in welcoming the Olympic Winter Games¹.

¹ First footnote on second page: text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text text.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Create a document with footnotes.
2. We are trying to continue the footnote on a new page.
3. Look at the length of the Separator line.

Actual Results:
I don't know how to move footnote text to another page.
Please tell how to continue the footnote on a new page.
If it is possible to continue the footnote on a new page, then make it so that it is clear that this is a continuation, and if there are also footnotes on this page, then they should go below under their numbers.
I tried to show it above.

Expected Results:
Please make the length of the separator line when continuing the footnote on a new page 100%.

Reproducible: Always

The footnote separator line is an attribute of the page style (PgS) and we have no option for different settings in case of continuations. The UI might be easy to change but we have to consider compatibility and need to comply with the open document format.

Besides the technical questions I actually never heard of a publication style that requests different footnote separators. Do you have a reference?

In various books I have seen footnotes continue on a new page.
In some books, the continuation of the footnote on a new page goes under the same Separator line.
In other books, the continuation of the footnote on a new page goes under a long Separator line for the entire width of the page.
I don't have an example picture :(

So we need insights from format experts whether the footnote separator line can vary between first and following pages.

The footnote continues on another page and the Separator line will be the full width of the page.

In one paper book the length of the separator line on the first page is about 25% of width.
And on the next page, the length of the separator line is about 90% of width.

Thus, we see that the length of the separator line when continuing the footnote on a new page is different!

Sometimes it is the same length as on the first page.
Sometimes it is the whole page.
Sometimes it is not the whole page, but more than on the first page.
