Description bert.vanderveen 2022-07-26 19:53:46 UTC
While scrolling an Excel worksheet (.xls) of <2000 rows and <10 colums, Calc suddenly stops scrolling and seems to be completely blocked. After 20-30 sec Calc is terminated. This does not happen in versions up to, but occurs in all versions from up to 7.3.5 that I have tested.
The way of scrolling makes no difference: with side bar, mouse wheel, keyboard, after a number of up-down movements the phenomenon occurs.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Open worksheet (.xls) in Calc
2.Scroll up/down some time with mouse wheel or side bar
3.Scrolling blocks and after some time Calc terminates

Actual Results:
Scrolling suddenly stops.
Calc does not respond on mouse or keyboard commands.
Calc terminates and does not restart automatically.
After manual restart recovery of the worksheet is suggested.

Expected Results:
Scrolling should not affect the normal operation of Calc. Crashing is unacceptable.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
The described phenomenon occurs on multiple machines. Even on a new laptop with only Windows 11 installed and then only LibreOffice 7.3.5 installed.
It also happens with different Excel-files with 'data base like' content, without complicated calculations.

Please test with a clean profile, Menu/Help/Restart in Safe Mode
Comment 2 bert.vanderveen 2022-07-27 18:25:41 UTC

I have tested the scroll behavior again in version
In Safe Mode scrolling is as it should be. I have not seen blocking or terminating of Calc.
In Normal mode scrolling blocks and Calc terminates after a short while as described earlier in 150157.

we can't solve the problem if you will not give us the information

Please try raal's recommendation from Comment 3 and attach here your file if it's possibly.

Thank you

Testfile for demonstrating reported scrolling/crash problem

Herewith I send a testfile for demonstrating the reported problem with scrolling, that blocks Calc and then crashes after some time.

I have no possibility to disable Skia as proposed in Comment #3, because I'm not running versio 7.3.5 on my PC currently.

No repro with or without Skia using the following:

Version: (x64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: d75c5c1f61a174b3b333e9db6536ab15cc37d00b
CPU threads: 12; OS: Windows 10.0 Build 22000; UI render: Skia/Vulkan; VCL: win
Locale: en-US (en_US); UI: en-US
Calc: CL

I can confirm, that this is due to Skia. Also I had 7.3.x and Now have and the behavior is the same. During the fast scroll it first feezes for a few seconds and then it just crashes.

As for the drivers. I had 512.60.0 an now have the 516.376.0 see skia.log at the end of message. Updating driver didn't help.
I can also provide an xlsx file if you think it's going to help.

Also I have Windows 10 on 4k screen with Scale and layout set to 150%

Let's assume duplicate, unless found out differently.
This depends on computer/video and not on test file.

Way to go is:
User older LO that works or better use current LO without Skia, as explained in https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/FirstSteps#Graphics-related_issues_.28_Skia_.29
Also install daily master from https://dev-builds.libreoffice.org/daily/master/current.html to see if fixed or not (as others cannot test for you). That master can be installed in addition to working LO and will not take extensions.
