Since all LO documents are opened in new windows, the shortcut Ctrl+Q should close only the document, not the entire suite. From the user's point of view, the focus is always on the document being worked on, and this is the default shortcut for closing windows and instances of most programs.
Actually we have 2 different shortcuts: Ctrl + Q -> Quits the entire application Ctrl + W -> Closes the current window I think what you want is to use Ctrl + W.

Yes, but how many users think of their document windows as part of a larger application? Also, most applications that allow multiple instances close just one window with Ctrl+Q. The ones that don't behave this way (like Firefox) display a clear warning about closing 2 or more windows: LO only asks whether or not to save each work (one dialog per window), which can cause confusion and accidents with data loss.
TBH I've seen various shortcuts for the same purpose, so I don't think there's a standard shortcut for closing a single window or all windows of the same application. Despite that, the idea of having a warning letting the user know that multiple windows are about to be closed seems interesting. Let's hear from the UX team.
+1 for a pop-out message. I've been bit a few times when not paying attention.

Some loosely related tickets: bug 144905 Ctrl+Q when a (modal) dialog is open in another module bug 142176 No prompt on logout/shutdown etc. bug 133542 Ctrl+W on single module closes app => NAB, by design

Never had problems using Ctrl-W / Alt-F4. But don't mind a popup, as suggested.
Also support a pop-up dialog on Ctrl+Q.
We discussed this topic in the design meeting. The actual request comes probably from the the fact that MSO has no exit function. It requires every open document to be closed individually - and after the last document is closed the application terminates. We do the same with ctrl+W or alt+F4. But additionally provide a function to exit quickly. And while the popup confirmation sounds reasonable it's a different situation when documents are not saved and another confirmation requires input. So we recommend to not change the behavior.
