Description dani2917 2023-01-10 09:28:45 UTC
I recently installed LibreOffice but didn't change any settings.
I use a ThinkPad notebook with a docking station for a 2nd screen. Both screens are active with slightly different resolutions. (Notebook: 1920 x 1080 ; 2nd monitor: 1920 x 1200) Both at 60 Hz.
The 2nd Monitor is my primary screen and i work on it primarily. When i want to start a presentation with a fully prepared .ppsx file (either with F5 or in the menu) LibreOffice wants to start the presentation on my notebook screen (default setting is on screen 1 - notebook) but very shortly shows the first slide (like 0.1 sec) then turns black. The notebook screen is still active but only shows a black screen while the 2nd monitor still shows the workspace from Impress.
Normally the other screen should show upcoming slides or animations but not in this situation.
When the screen turns black i can't open Task manager, windows button or ctrl + alt + delete. I can move the cursor but the context menu doesn't open. I pressed a lot of keys and leftclicks so the presentation should have ended.
I already found a workaround in the presentation settings.
The presentation screen needs to be set to the 2nd monitor and set a tik that the presentation always is in the front.

I reproduced the same effect with an empty presentation. So the presentation can't finish for the problem to be fixed.
Tried to start a presentation with Microsoft Office PowerPoint with no errors.

Please test with a clean profile, Menu/Help/Restart in Safe Mode
Comment 6 dani2917 2023-01-11 06:13:53 UTC
I tested it with Safe Mode and reset to factory settings and had no issue starting the presentation.
I tested again if the problem still appears when i start the presentation without Safe Mode and it happened again with the issue.
Odd thing is, i didn't personalize anything prior to starting the presentation. My process was: install LibreOffice 7.4.3.2, open .ppsx file, start presentation. Nothing more.

Test if the issue is in relation with Skia, disable it at:
Menu/Tools/Options/View
Comment 8 dani2917 2023-01-11 10:40:48 UTC
I disabled Skia like you asked and the empty presentation starts without any problems. The fully edited presentation takes a few seconds to load (23 slides) but works fine now.
So it seems to have a relation with Skia.

Try downloading the drivers directly from the manufacturer, usually AMD or INTEL.

Was the blank file created with PowerPoint or Impress?
Did it happen only with PPSX files or others too, like PPTX or ODP?
Could you attach that example file for us to test?

Sorry to bring up more questions now that you can't test anymore, but just in case you remember and it helps us test further.
Comment 12 dani2917 2023-01-16 10:31:18 UTC
The blank file was created with Impress. I only tested it with PPSX. Sadly i cannot provide the file where it happened first for data safety reasons.

I'm glad to answer questions out of memory if it helps.

Can't reproduce with Skia/Vulkan and two monitors either:

    Version: 7.4.4.2 (x64) / LibreOffice Community
    Build ID: 85569322deea74ec9134968a29af2df5663baa21
CPU threads: 8; OS: Windows 10.0 Build 19045; UI render: Skia/Vulkan; VCL: win
    Locale: fr-FR (fr_FR); UI: fr-FR
    Calc: CL

Given that Dani doesn't have access to the hardware anymore, without an example file, and no one able to reproduce, I'll close this as "insufficient data", but please set back to "unconfirmed" if witnessed again and more info can be provided.
