Description mazzhe 2023-07-02 17:43:14 UTC
Description:
In Calc, the Tools - Options - Language Settings - Languages - Decimal separator key parameter seems to have no effect when the keyboard layout is set on "BÉPO" (Dvorak-like french keyboard).
A user tested different layouts to determine which ones works and which ones doesn’t. See: https://linuxfr.org/nodes/131678/comments/1928573

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Choose "Français (BÉPO, AFNOR)" keyboard layout
2.Create a new Calc sheet, and in a cell, type "3.1415" using the numeric pad.
3.

Actual Results:
Cell contains text "3.1415"

Expected Results:
Cell should contain numerical value "3,1415" (using french decimal notation)

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
The option should rely on the locale setting, not on the keyboard layout.

Tried under a newly installed Debian 12. Don’t know if it is the same with other OS.

Regarding:
* what is the "correct" expected decimal separator
* which settings are used in the Locale options in LO
* whether the numeric key pad is used, or some alternative input key
* whether the input is performed within the inputwin / formula bar / edit mode / direct typing
* which exact French variant in Locale settings and in hardware (keyboard) is in use
* which OS/DE is in use...

Apparently, through many years, this has been somehow a problem, in one way or another, that was not always reproduced by others, or not explained with enough details. At any rate, users' experience has been inconsistent.

At least some of those might deserve a place in the "See also" field.

(One discrepancy between formula bar and in-cell editing for GTK was resolved recently in bug 154623, so I'd recommend anyone on Linux to test with at least version 7.5.3)

- Please provide your version information copied from Help > About LibreOffice (there's a button to copy it), and let us know if you use Wayland or not. This might be relevant, as seen in bug 143540 comment 25.
- Check in other apps if LibreOffice is really the odd one out

Potential duplicate is bug 140104, I find it's the one matching most closely your report and the LinuxFR comment you linked.

Thank you!

Can you please contribute your findings over there, mazzhe?

Thank you!
