Description: Writer automatically indents ordered lists. A toolbar icon allows you to INCREASE the indent amount; but the 'Decrease indent' icon is greyed out. Suggestion: please allow this 'Decrease indent' icon to align the numbers with the left-hand margin of the rest of the text. Thank you for a truly excellent program Steps to Reproduce: 1.Type some text 2.Start an Ordered list 3.Try to use the 'Decrease indent' icon to align the numbers with the LH margin Actual Results: The 'Decrease indent' icon is greyed out Expected Results: I had hoped to be able to align the numbered of the ordered list with the left-hand margin of the rest of the text using this simple method. Reproducible: Always User Profile Reset: Yes Additional Info: Tried this on three separate PCs now - same results. A workaround turns out to be quite complicated.
Thank you for the suggestion. The "decrease/increase indent" for ordered/unordered lists are really controls for "promote/demote outline level", not really about indentation. The indentation used is the one defined for that outline level, and the default for outline level 1 is 0.64 cm. So in my opinion, the request should be closed as "won't fix", but I'll check with the UX/Design team. If you want to have a list that always starts at the margin, you can modify or create a paragraph style that uses the option "apply list style" (in the "Outline and List" tab), and make that list style start with an outline level 1 aligned at 0 cm. Would that cover you use case?
(and really, these button labels should be context-dependent and should change to something like "increase/decrease outline level" when the cursor is in a list)
(In reply to Stéphane Guillou (stragu) from comment #1) > the request should be closed as "won't fix" The function applies a lot of direct formatting to the paragraph. Instead, you could use the "Bullet •" list style (check the top-most icon-only buttons in the Styles tab of the sidebar, or pick it at the "Outline & List" tab of the paragraph properties dialog). Most users are probably happy with the indentation, so I agree with WF. OK, fair enough - thanks for your help
