Description Max 2024-03-17 03:47:26 UTC
Description:
For example, when writing the following sentence, "the electrophysiological signal is red", the word *electrophysiological* is highlighted as a spelling error through languageTool. While I was able to change this behavior in languageTool (albeit only **after** creating a custom profile), it persists in libreoffice and is very annoying, making the tool borderline unusable.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Copy the sentence "The electrophysiological signal is red." into a new document
2. Enable languageTool

Actual Results:
electrophysiological is highlighted as *not a word* albeit added to the user-dictionary of the hunspell module.

Expected Results:
Not highlighting words added to the user-defined dictionary.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
Version: 24.2.1.2 (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community

CPU threads: 32; OS: Linux 6.7; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3
Locale: en-US (en_US.UTF-8); UI: en-US

I cannot confirm it. To which dictionary do you have added the word?
Comment 2 Max 2024-03-17 14:29:45 UTC
Thanks a lot for looking into this matter, much appreciated!

The word is added to the user defined dictionaries (Tools -> Options -> Languages and Locales -> Writing Aids -> standard [all]). This is where it got added after right clicking the word and selecting "add to dictionary".

After adding the word into the above dictionary (and restarting libreoffice completely), it is still highlighted as *wrong* (red underlining).

Cutting and copying the word retains the issue, as does removing the sentence and retyping it.

I can reproduce that the word is not added in version 7.6. But I cannot reproduce it in version 24.2.1. So the problem is already fixed.

But I do not find an associated bug report to set this report as duplicate.

You can get the new version from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/download-libreoffice/

I'm currently using version 24.2.1.2 (installed via pacman).

However, I've reinstalled libreoffice and reset it to factory settings. Yet, the error persists.

Two more thoughts:
- I'm currently running a self-hosted version of the languageTool grammar checker
- The new word is correctly added to the used defined dictionary. This works indeed. However, LanguageTool still thinks there's a spelling mistake.

After factory resetting, the only settings I configured were:

1. The activation of LanguageTool
2. Change of the base URL to the locally hosted server.

Is there anything else I can provide to help you replicate the issue?

So the error is not with the build-in spell-checker but with a tool "languageTool". Someone else who uses such tool needs to look at this report.

Hi Max,

Does this issue occur without the usage of "languageTool"? When I type the same sentence in Writer, there's no squiggly line underneath "electrophysiological" to indicate that there's a spelling error. This could be an issue with "languageTool" and have nothing to do with LibreOffice.
Comment 7 Haris 2024-04-01 06:29:26 UTC
You might also want to check if the same occurs with other office suites when you enable "languageTool". Test it with another office suite and that should give you a good idea on where the problem lies.

Happens only with languageTool enabled. However, when I directly use languageTool (via its own GUI), the issue does not arise, exclusively when using the libreoffice integration.

From a user-perspective, it just defeats the purpose if half the text is red, but correct :) .

This is most likely the same issue as bug 152110, marking as duplicate.
It is indeed a LibreOffice issue.
I was recently fixed, so please test with a current daily build to confirm it is also resolved for you:

Thank you!

Apologies for the late reply, just downloaded the latest as of writing (LibreOfficeDev_24.8.0.0.alpha0_Linux_x86-64) and can confirm the bug is fixed.

Thanks!
