Created attachment 197133 [details] One comment in file Description: Comment box size different when hovering a cell with a comment compared to right clicking the same cell and clicking "show comment". Steps to Reproduce: Open the attached file or create a new ods file and create a comment with text spanning over several rows to see the size difference of the comment. Actual Results: The comment box is a different size when hoovering with the mouse over the cell with the comment. Expected Results: The comment box should be the same size when hoovering over the cell with the comment as when editing the comment or right clicking the cell and clicking "show comment". Reproducible: Always Tested only on Microsoft Windows 10 and 11 on LibreOffice Calc 7.6.0.3 and the latest 24.8.2.1. Most likely the last version not having this bug is LibreOffice Calc 7.5.9.2.
Opening the file shows the problem, but if the size of the comment is modified, then it shows almost the same size after save-open. Version: 25.2.0.0.alpha0+ (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community Build ID: b4faa1775dfd90e781ac2f94a7ae1ada31b9d49f CPU threads: 16; OS: Windows 11 X86_64 (10.0 build 22631); UI render: Skia/Raster; VCL: win Locale: es-ES (es_ES); UI: en-US Calc: threaded
Interesting. I have not tested it on a later version than 24.8.2.1 as you did. Sorry, I should have mentioned that I have only tested it on the portable version of 24.2.8.1 but I have seen the bug on several normal installable Windows X86_64 versions in between version 7.6.0.3 and 24.8.2.1 as well in the past (which means all the versions I tested in the past in between those version numbers had that bug). I also tested to change the size of the comment and save and reopen the file with the portable version of 24.8.2.1 and the bug is still there then. I can also mention that if the file is opened on the portable 7.5.9.2 version or any earlier version than that then the file looks as it supposed to do when opening the file. No resize and save and reopen necessary.
Probably a consequence of adding author and time-stamp information to Calc comments, as part of the comment itself and without the possibility to delete that extra info (as other spreadsheet tools allow). For those that are unaware, Calc's comments (aka notes) are not the same as tracking changes. I think this was reported before, but I'm not completely sure.

Yes I think that too. When the author and time-stamp information started to show up in all comments from version 7.6.x then I was thinking that I will stay on LibreOffice 7.5.9.2 for a really long time as I have a lot of comments that then started to be overlapped by other elements like buttons. See bug: https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=163513 but then I saw in LibreOffice 24.8.2.1 that an checkbox in settings had been added that can hide that information. The checkbox is located in settings at: Tools - Options - LibreOffice Calc - View - Display - "Comment Authorship". The width problem of the comment when opening the file is still there though even when that checkbox is deselected in 24.8.2.1. I think I saw the problem reported on some other forum a long time ago and I really tried to see if it was reported here before posting the bug but I could not find any report of it.
