Description: Even though I have "Automatic Update" enabled, it's never worked for me so far since it was implemented in the 24.2 branch. I'm currently on 24.8.2 trying to update to 24.8.3, but it looks like I'll need to update manually. Steps to Reproduce: 1. I click on Help > Check for Updates. Actual Results: I keep getting the following message: "The automatic download of the update is currently not available". Expected Results: I should be able to get the automatic update. Reproducible: Always User Profile Reset: No Additional Info: I've waited for a few days, in case it takes some time for LibreOffice to detect a new update, but it hasn't worked so far.
Legacy 'Check for Updates' and new Automatic Update (MAR incrementals of bug 68274) are different implementations. The Tools -> Options -> Online Update: "Automatic Update" check box controls the new MAR update. The legacy update check will show the note. For the MAR updates, check in your user profile, e.g. on Windows at C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\LibreOffice\4\updates\updating.log The MAR updating depends on TDF release engineering to package the incremental updates against build signatures, and to post them to the servers. They've not been rolling the MAR consistently, but they are posting and the incrementals do install when available. The legacy update check still requires a manual download and install of the update package, e.g. as .MSI on Windows builds. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 162648 ***
Thanks for your comments. I didn’t know it was legacy, and in fact, when you click on Help > Check for Updates, or you do it via the settings, you get two messages (one for automatic updates and one for manual updates), so I just assumed checking for updates worked according to your update preferences. I’ve checked the log, and there are many lines about failed updates. I’ll just assume automatic update doesn’t work at the moment, I’ll update manually to 24.8.3, as I need the bug fixes, and I’ll try next time.
