Created attachment 197975 [details] MSO shows editable region While LO does not support restricting editing of documents (bug 120854) it can read restricted DOCX. Missing is to be able in LO to Highlight the regions I can edit, like in MSO. It should be configurable option. Otherwise, currently user may not know what is editable.
Sounds reasonable to me, but let's ask design-team
The only way to make parts of a document read-only is via frames using the Protect > Content option, as far as I know. Are there any other?

But if we don't support restricted editing, doesn't that mean that, when we open a DOCX which indicates that - we lose the indications of the restricted-editing regions? And that we can just edit the whole thing? And in that case - what will we do with such highlighting when the user starts making edits?
Editing is another ticket in See Also. This is to show by highlilght. Best if all can be resolved.
Added link to an MS Office support page with instructions about using the "Restricted Editing" feature. We should probably add an actual MS-Word document with some areas restricted for editing and some allowed.
We discussed the topic in the design meeting. Highlighting sounds like an option but it's a question whether to do so for the readonly part or the normal. Personally I'd go with something that resembles the disabled control state (dimmed font and background if not available). On the other hand, highlighting might clash with other styling. We could just give feedback with the infobar when the document is being loaded.
Sample is attachment 197978 [details] from bug 164215.
