Thank you for reporting the bug. Please attach a sample document, as this makes it easier for us to verify the bug. I have set the bug's status to 'NEEDINFO'. Created attachment 198271 [details] Document that I edited while Writer crashed (I sanitized the document)
After I installed WritingTool extension, and enabled Automatic Spell Checking, wrinting text in document is slower. But no crash. Version: 24.8.4.2 (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community Build ID: bb3cfa12c7b1bf994ecc5649a80400d06cd71002 CPU threads: 16; OS: Linux 6.8; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3 Locale: ro-RO (ro_RO.UTF-8); UI: en-US Calc: threaded
I did not test 25.8, just 24.8.4.
No crash with Version: 25.8.0.0.alpha0+ (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community Build ID: cac9c7db6257b27724d90d4a355e52e456ef7e08 CPU threads: 4; OS: Linux 6.8; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3 Locale: cs-CZ (cs_CZ.UTF-8); UI: en-US Calc: threaded Gerry, can you reproduce the crash with attached document?

Thank you for looking into this bug. I tried to replicate the bug, but in the few minutes I tried, the document did not crash. I tested with the sanitized document and the original document. Is there anything else I can do to trace the reason for the crash? Was the crash report helpful?

Created attachment 198355 [details] First gdbtrace.log (in fact, LibreOffice immediately crashed in debug mode while opening the previously crashed document)
Note for the gdbtrace.log : While Writer crashed (and while the gdbtrace.log (attached) was saved) the command line showed following error messages: log will be saved as gdbtrace.log, this will take some time, patience... warn:configmgr:402661:402661:configmgr/source/xcuparser.cxx:646: unknown property "SpellAndGrammarDialogImage" in "file:///home/gerald/.config/libreofficedev/4/user/uno_packages/cache/registry/com.sun.star.comp.deployment.configuration.PackageRegistryBackend/lu24dcbp.tmp/Linguistic.xcu" warn:sfx.dialog:402661:402661:sfx2/source/dialog/filtergrouping.cxx:357: already have an element for WordPerfect warn:sfx.dialog:402661:402661:sfx2/source/dialog/filtergrouping.cxx:357: already have an element for writerweb8_writer_template warn:sfx.dialog:402661:402661:sfx2/source/dialog/filtergrouping.cxx:357: already have an element for writerglobal8 warn:vcl.gtk:402661:402661:vcl/unx/gtk3/fpicker/SalGtkFilePicker.cxx:950: no parent widget set
Adding to comment 11 : After I run soffice --backtrace, LibreOffice correctly starts up, but then any creation of a New Document or if I open the previously crashed document, LibreOffice will crash.
Created attachment 198356 [details] Second gdbtrace.log Please find attached the second gdbtrace.log. After I run soffice --backtrace, LibreOffice correctly started up, but this time I tried to create a new impress presentation. After I saw the new presentation, LibreOffice crashed within a tenth of a second. These crashes happen with Writer and Impress, but not with Calc. The error messages on the command line were: warn:sfx:403465:403465:sfx2/source/control/thumbnailview.cxx:98: caught exception while trying to access Thumbnail/thumbnail.png of file:///home/peter/Templates/txt.txt com.sun.star.io.IOException message: "/home/tdf/lode/jenkins/workspace/lo_gerrit/tb/src_master/package/source/xstor/xstorage.cxx:2340: at /home/tdf/lode/jenkins/workspace/lo_gerrit/tb/src_master/package/source/xstor/xstorage.cxx:2340" warn:sfx:403465:403465:sfx2/source/control/thumbnailview.cxx:124: caught exception while trying to access Thumbnails/thumbnail.png of file:///home/peter/Templates/txt.txt com.sun.star.io.IOException message: "/home/tdf/lode/jenkins/workspace/lo_gerrit/tb/src_master/package/source/xstor/xstorage.cxx:2340: at /home/tdf/lode/jenkins/workspace/lo_gerrit/tb/src_master/package/source/xstor/xstorage.cxx:2340"
Hi, it would be great if somebody could look into this CRASH bug. The bug might also affect the upcoming 25.2 release, because I noticed the bug in a pre version. In order to do the debugging I used 25.8. nightly to test the crash that I had experienced. Thanks!
